# Jenny
> **One-line reading.** A name sung once, in 2023, about a dancer who got the answer, and equated by Roy himself with the first name he stopped using. This guide reads Jenny as the buried half of the project's twin, the self the mask grew around, named in a way that no one would trace and numbered so that someone could. She has been silent since, and the new house song is where she seems to come back.
> [!info] Where she appears
> **The lyric:** [[All My Friends]] (May 26, 2023), opening verse. One song, one name.
> **The posts:** *Jenny is Brandon* (X, December 23, 2022) · *Jenny / = / 408* (X, release day, May 26, 2023).
> **The Discord:** February 25, 2023, in the Hall of Mirrors channel, Roy repeated *Jenny is Brandon* during a thread about names, and nine minutes later typed *Brandon is Jenny?*
> **Named after that:** nowhere, by name.
This is a buried page. Nothing in the navigation points here; it is reached only from the deep ends of the pages Jenny touches. That is deliberate. The project buried the name, and this guide keeps her where the project keeps her.
> [!infobox] Jenny at a glance
> - **Grounded:** one lyric (2023); two posts by Roy (the equation, the number); one Discord repetition with a reversal.
> - **What she does in the song:** carries a red flag, used to dance, now has the answer, preaches the end.
> - **This guide's reading:** the feminine pole of a one-becomes-two split, the pole that grew Lucius as its mask; active, not a dead origin.
> - **An alternative character mapping:** one person under two names, the dancer while the protector drives. This still expresses polarity; the distinction concerns how its poles appear.
> - **Where she may be back:** the devil in the car in [[House Is Haunted]].
> - **What would settle it:** a lyric pairing her with the first name as two; Roy restating the equation as a number game; the released song naming her.
## The record, in order
1. **December 23, 2022.** Roy posts three words: *Jenny is Brandon*. No song carrying the name has been released yet. [[Brandon]] is his legal first name; he goes by his middle name.
2. **February 25, 2023.** In the Hall of Mirrors Discord channel, fans are working a thread about the difference between a name and what a thing is called, the riddle from *Through the Looking-Glass* that one of the Hall's rooms is built on. A fan asks whether the Jenny tweet is the same idea. Roy answers by repeating it, *Jenny is Brandon*, and when told that repeating it is not helpful, reverses it with a question mark: *Brandon is Jenny?* The reversal reads at least partly as play; on its own it does not point the equation either way.
3. **May 26, 2023.** *All My Friends* is released. Its first verse is about Jenny: a big red flag, a dancer once, now the one with the answer, preaching the end of the world. The same day Roy posts *Jenny / = / 408*.
4. **The number.** Count the letters plainly, A as 1 through Z as 26: Jenny is 68 and Brandon is 68. Multiply by six and both are 408, which is the value the calculator listed on Roy's own decoder page returns under its English cipher. The post is the key to the equation he had set five months earlier.
5. **The cover.** The single's artwork, the same image the streaming services carry, shows a child with a dark bowl haircut, seen from the eyes down, with an orange, flag-shaped panel laid exactly over the eyes. Inside the panel a dark mountain erupts under a calm blue sky. Whose child it is isn't known, and this guide won't guess.
## Why the first name
In April 2022 Roy wrote of *the subtle difference between a name and what something or someone is called*, and that sentence is the key to a room in the Hall built on Carroll's four-level riddle about the name of a song. Here the difference is plain enough: Brandon is his legal name, Roy is what he is called. *Jenny is Brandon* puts Jenny beside the name rather than the stage name or a character, and this guide reads that as reaching back to the first name. The Hall does not make it a rule. Two of the riddle's *really is* phrases open rooms and no room has turned up for its two *called* phrases, but those searches were limited and nobody has stated a law. No public source says which of Carroll's levels Jenny, Brandon or Roy occupy.
The count agrees, and so does time. Jenny's verse is a history: she *used to be* a dancer. The dancer, in [[Ballerina Boy]], was seven years old and in ballet class. The child had one name. The stage name came years later, the project name later still. The only name that was there when she danced is the first one.
## Who she is: two readings, both held
**One person, two names.** Jenny is the person while the protector drives. *Used to be a dancer, now she's got the answer* is one life, before and after: the dancer is what [[Sir Lucius]] was built to protect, and the one with the answer is what Lucius is. Jenny names the person in whom one turned into the other, which is why the equation lands on the person's name and not on either character.
**One becomes two.** In [[Another Way II Heaven]] Roy sings a cosmogony: one became two so that it could see itself, and the two could dance. Read at the level of the person, Brandon and Jenny are the two, a masculine pole and a feminine pole, equal in the count, and each grew a mask. Brandon grew Roy, the artist. Jenny grew Lucius, the mind with the answer. On this reading the twin in Jagwar Twin is the pair under the masks, and *Brandon is Jenny?* is a polarity stated one way and questioned the other.
The second reading explains more. It is the project's own doctrine of the protector, built by the protected to get the child through the dark. It explains why the verse crosses its properties: she has the answer, which the board on Roy's wall genders masculine, while he is chasing a feeling, which it genders feminine. And it explains the voice. In this song the lead sings a she's line in a put-on feminine register; in [[Welcome to the Circus]] the faceless dancer wears his face paint; on the title track of [[Lucius Lullaby]] this guide reads the rescuing voice as Lucius standing in for the feminine. If Lucius is Jenny's mask, he is doing his own origin's voice each time.
Polarity and balance remain the structure in either mapping. One person may carry the changing positions; either pole may also divide into several characters. Jenny’s lost dance and acquired answering authority make her relevant within that structure. The proposed Jenny-to-Lucius relationship can be tested as a character genealogy, but the framework does not prove it. Neither a second name nor a larger cast settles which figure expresses which capacity.
## Why a woman's name
The mechanism is in [[Ballerina Boy]]. The dancing child was told by the girls in class that he was not a real boy, prayed to be made good, and never danced again. The feminine name is the name the wound gave the dancer. *Ballerina Boy* fastens a feminine dance-word to a boy; *Jenny is Brandon* fastens a feminine name to the birth name. The same operation, performed twice. And the register of her preaching, the end of the world, is the register of the Christian school where the first *answer* was handed to the child: that what he was must be bad.
Why not a grander name, Sophia say, the wisdom-name that also counts 68? Because Roy's rule is that a name must not lead you to the thing. Sophia would hand a reader the answer and would misdescribe her: Jenny has an answer, not wisdom. An ordinary girl's name is the perfect hiding place, and on this guide's reading the number is the way in.
## Why she went silent
Jenny was first named in December 2022 and sung in May 2023. Sir Lucius was named that September, with [[Good Time (1-08)]]. She is the person-level diagnosis before the project built a character to carry it. Once Lucius existed, the function had a figure Roy could address, dress, dismiss and take on tour, and the name never recurred because the character absorbed it. The silence is not odd. It fits the transfer, though it cannot prove it.
## Why now
The new song, [[House Is Haunted]], is sung from the mask's chair, and it has a *she*. He drives to Hades, picks the devil up, and she says *Baby, you're about to level up*, in the lead's own voice, playful, put on. A self with the answer, under a woman's name, promising advancement: that is Jenny's profile exactly. (If the record resolves the promise as repair rather than escape, the weight at the album level moves toward Mary's register for the figure at the bottom; as the line is sung, Jenny's profile and the copied voice stay ahead.) The house that *used to be our home* is, on the two-pole reading, the pair's shared house, and the walls that talk when he is alone carry the other pole's mask.
There is also a phone number. *All My Friends* dates its drum to 1981, which is Phil Collins, and 1981 is also the release year of Tommy Tutone's *867-5309/Jenny* (a hit the following spring), the song built on a number found on a bathroom wall: *for a good time, call*. Roy's 408 is an area code. A strong read would say the song hands you the number in halves, and that Jagwar Twin's own *Good Time* is the call you place to her: the dream behind that song begins with a text that the ride is here, and the one who turns up in the passenger seat with all the answers is Lucius. Lucius has her number, in every sense of the phrase. If that holds, the new song is the line still ringing in a house where the one you want no longer picks up.
## The dog and the god
The clearest statement of what the feminine pole did is in [[Great Time to Be Human]]: a girl goes to the Chemist to make her a dog, and he, being dyslexic, makes a god. Love is what you give a creature; worship is what you give a god. On this guide's reading she asked to be loved and worship was manufactured instead. In the Gnostic story this guide uses only as a lens, that is Sophia's error: she brought forth without her consort, and the product was a blind god who believed he was the only one. Lucius points at the dog/god line himself in the last Interview episode. Put the two together with the reading above and the mechanism is complete: the feminine pole, going to a maker who was not her partner, got a god by mistake, and the god is the mask.
That is what the devil's *level up* in the car means on this reading. Dog to god is the word turned around, and reversal is Roy's method. The promise at the bottom of Hades is the Chemist's error offered again. The way out is not to kill the god and not to obey him but to bring him up and see him as a creature, which the older song's refrain already says: a great time to be *human*.
## The red flag, and the child at sea
What is Jenny's *big red flag*? The idiom first: the warning you should have noticed. The banner second: what a preacher carries. And then a lead this guide holds loosely. In the Hall of Mirrors, the room [Home At Sea](https://hom.jagwartwinlore.com/rooms/r-6f8c35da7301/) is a childhood photograph filed under Childhood: a child in a red jacket and blue jeans on a ferry deck, feet hanging clear of the floor, seated exactly where the white rail meets the dark hull. Its key is *left shoulder of a dolphin*. On the body map Roy typed onto his board, where the body is numbered from the feet to the crown as the ten stations of the Tree of Life, the left shoulder is the seventh station, Chesed, mercy, the inheritance one starts life with, one rung above Roy's own sphere on his own side of the body.
Another room, [the jaguar temple](https://hom.jagwartwinlore.com/rooms/r-2da3b5d407a3/), is a pencil sketch in which a ladder rises out of water Roy labelled *Sea of Mind* and climbs into the open mouth of a jaguar. Read the two together and the child on the water sits at the ladder's foot, before the first rung, and the figure at the lip has climbed it. The mouth is the station this guide gives the mind that speaks. If the red jacket is Jenny's red flag, then the photograph is the child before the split, carrying the red of one pillar over the blue of the other, carried across water by the animal that ferries souls. A lead, not a finding. The station and the ladder are the project's own; the join is this guide's. The photograph itself contains a coat, not a flag; this is a proposed relation between images and words.
## What would settle it
A lyric or statement pairing Jenny and Brandon, or clarifying the name equation, could distinguish particular character mappings. It would not make polarity depend on the number of people. The comparison continues by asking how the figures divide or share capacities and what happens to balance; a named identity or origin requires its own evidence.

## A model, not a settled parentage
The polarity framework keeps Jenny active: lost dance can become answering authority, and either pole can have more than one character expression. It does not establish that Jenny created Lucius, that a wound caused the name choice, or that later silence proves absorption. The proposed phone connection likewise combines an explicit Collins reference with further interpretive bridges. [[Concepts/The Speaker Problem#Authorship is contested inside the scene|The Speaker Problem]] keeps those origin claims separate from the underlying structure.
