# Bounce
> **One-line reading.** A song that performs psychological evasion in real time: panic surfaces for one beat, and the whole track answers it by refusing to look — converting the crack into motion, mythology, sex, and spectacle before it can become knowledge. The tell isn't the panic. It's the *speed* of the cover-up, run so fast it becomes visible.

A two-minute party anthem that turns out to be a nervous breakdown wearing a very good hat. It sits deep in the album's back half — right after the false-immortality machinery of [[Playing to the Gods]], the replication-and-upload machinery of [[City of Angels]], and the bargain-enacted [[Not Your Homie]]. By this point in *Lucius Lullaby* the cost has already been shown; Bounce is what denial sounds like once you know better and keep dancing anyway.
## At a glance
- **Era / release** — *Lucius Lullaby*, released March 27, 2026 (a distinct "Official Audio" upload; stream link *ffm.to/luciuslullaby*); jointly credited to [[Jagwar Twin]] and [[Sir Lucius|sir lucius]]. Official visualizer out ~April 24 (an underwater classical bust with face-paint; © 2026 Big Loud Rock, under exclusive license to Mercury/UMG). Performed live at the May 17 [[Characters/Supporting Cast/BMRC|BMRC]] "Live Underground" event in Los Angeles — where production deliberately recorded the crowd's voices ("he wanted the voices"), enacting the album's sing-back device as a live fact.
- **In one line** — a crack of self-awareness opens twice, and forced motion seals it both times; the structural answer to *"do I really wanna know?"* is **no.**
- **Who speaks** — a party-command voice in a [[Sir Lucius|Lucius]] key, with [[Roy]]-pressure leaking through the panic line. Both **ROY** and **sir lucius** are formally credited as vocalists; who sings which part isn't settled.
- **Key symbols** — [[The Mask]] · [[Concepts/The Circus]] · [[The Moon]] · [[The Mirror]] · the house and its roof ([[Concepts/The House and the Vessel]])
## The song, mapped
Bounce runs six labeled sections, and the shape *is* the argument: each time a real feeling surfaces, the next line buries it under a command to move.
| Section | In the song | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| **Intro** | *"Bounce with me… just bow-bow-bow-bow bounce with me"* | Pure motion-summons. Establishes the counting-in, onomatopoeic *bow-bow* cadence and the recruitment hook — *with me* — before any content arrives. |
| **Verse 1** | *"Re-re-ready, set, go"* → *"Do I really wanna know why I'm panicking?"* → *"I'm Anakin Skywalker / Who's your daddy?"* | The thesis in miniature. A starting-gun, then the panic **question** — which is instantly *not* answered. It deflects into mythology (Anakin), then sex/dominance (*who's your daddy?*), then transaction (*take my number and my addy*). Panic → myth → sex → spectacle, before it can become knowledge. |
| **Pre-chorus** | *"Say yeah, yeah, yeah…"* → *"if you wanna bounce with me"* | Language dissolves into pure affirmation, then re-arms the recruitment hook. |
| **Chorus** | *"life is short, so let's get down"* → *"tear the roof off of my house, my house"* → *"up and down and bounce"* | All command, no stillness. The demolition is **possessive** — not the communal *tear the roof off* of party songs, but *my* house. |
| **Verse 2** | *"You just love me for my lore / Because I am not a bore"* → *"Get your ass up on the floor"* | The possible true center: the **lore** turn — the audience loves the *story*, not the person — landing a sharply modern anxiety, then immediately re-buried under a floor-command. |
| **Outro** | *"Get, get down / Haha, wow"* | The party doesn't resolve. It deflates — a flat, near-dissociative exhale. |
Read top to bottom, the protections strip away in sequence: panic surfaces → identity becomes mythology → the roof comes off → the body keeps moving. The trajectory isn't toward freedom. It's toward **exposure.**
> 🚪 *Notice which part goes: not the walls, not the door, just the roof. Roy builds an awful lot of houses, arks, cages, and eggs, and there seem to be only four things a container can do: hold, open, shatter, or hatch. So [[Concepts/The House and the Vessel|which one is this]]?*
## What it means
**The real command is *don't stop*.** Everything in the song points at continuous motion, and the opposite of Bounce isn't sitting still — it's *reflection*. The track behaves as if stopping would be dangerous, which is the surest sign that stopping is exactly where the truth is. Movement here is the technology for staying asleep: the catalogue's "wake up" axis run in reverse. (The pronoun math backs the read — Bounce sits firmly in the album's *"I"*-engine of self-assertion and performance, where [[33|33]] ran an other-directed *"you."*)
**The panic gets weaponized into a costume.** The sequence *I'm panicking → I'm Anakin Skywalker → who's your daddy?* is vulnerability converted into myth: *I am afraid, therefore I become a character.* And the character chosen is precise — Anakin is the figure whose villainy *emerges from panic*, from a fear of loss he cannot tolerate. The Vader turn *is* panic weaponized, which is exactly the move the song makes. The promo cycle even ran the punchline in the open, captioning posts *"I am your father."* One guardrail: Roy habitually drops pop-avatar self-IDs (Jack Sparrow, Neo-shaman, *venus as a boy*), so this shouldn't be built into a coded Vader theology — but as *panic weaponized*, it holds cleanly, and it's a stronger read than the generic "fallen hero."
**"Leave this place" is recruitment, not just escape.** *No time to waste if you wanna leave this place* admits a place exists that needs escaping, without ever naming it. Given the recruitment register — *with me*, over and over — the strongest readings are (a) leaving ordinary reality and the body for the Lucius-performance state, or (b) luring the listener out of reality into [[Concepts/The Circus]]. Either way, the line offers exit *only through immediate motion* — which is itself the trap.
**"Lore" may be the center of the whole thing.** *You just love me for my lore / because I am not a bore.* The speaker understands that the audience loves the **story** — the mythology, the character, the wound, the content — and not the person. It's a modern anxiety to land in a late-album slot, and the bite is that the line works *because it's accurate*. It rhymes hard with [[Concepts/The Digital Double]] — the "consume the mythology, not the person" logic of an artist replicated into product — and with Lucius as the self-described "algorithm baby." (For a long time this reading hung on a contested mishearing; the word *lore* is now confirmed against the released lyric, so only the interpretation stays a reading.)
**The comedy is doing analytical work.** The whiplash *is* the joke and *is* the point: mythic self-ID (*Anakin Skywalker*) collapsing into a deadpan phone-number handoff (*take my number and my addy*); vulnerability flipped into a smirking dominance boast (*who's your daddy? you're such a baddie*) inside a single bar; the flat *"haha, wow"* where a climax should be. Even the rollout ran the high/low gag — a song whose live title card quotes an ancient Hebrew cosmology text was announced with *"Ya 🔥 Hey 💨 visualizer out now."* The bathos isn't a lapse in seriousness. It's the mechanism: charm deployed at speed so nothing has to be felt.
**The promo campaign framed the song as an anti-illusion text.** The `#bounce` rollout is unusually explicit about how to read the song: for weeks before and after release, @jagwartwin's posts pinned the party anthem to a curated wall of quoted epigraphs — a running syllabus of esotericism-and-illusion. The named authors:
- **C. S. Lewis** — *"There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal…"* (posted under **#bounce #sirlucius** — the "no mere mortals" line set against a song about loving someone only for their *lore*).
- **Rudolf Steiner** (×2) — *"The world is illusion, but illusion is not nothing. It is a revelation,"* and *"People's illusions come in all shades of meaning; they are coloured by party politics and so on."*
- **Hermes Trismegistus** — *"The center is everywhere"* (the Hermetic maxim; the patron of the manifesto-card game).
- **Manly P. Hall** — *"We can only escape from the world by outgrowing the world,"* and *"The universe is a mirror reflecting the image of the one who looks into it"* (the second pinned directly to the *"lucius lullaby out 3/27"* announcement).
- **Yoda** — *"Clear your mind must be, if you are to discover the real villains behind this plot"* (the *Anakin* joke's other half — the film-quote as a literal instruction to stop and look, which the song refuses).
- **J. R. R. Tolkien** — his anti-"State" / anarchist-or-monarchist remarks.
- **Matthew 10:16** — *"Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."*
The reading these curate is consistent: *the world is an illusion; do not be deceived by it; the villains are hidden; escape is by outgrowing, not fleeing.* That is the exact anti-illusion, *stop-and-see* posture the song's own structure keeps refusing — the paratext says *clear your mind and see the real villains*, and the track answers *do I really wanna know? …no, bounce with me.* The promo is the seriousness the song won't sit still long enough to voice.
## Characters
- **[[Sir Lucius]]** — credited vocalist, and the party-command register reads in his key: the protector translating a paralysis the ego can't hold into outward motion. Not a simple villain — in Jungian terms, the shadow absorbing a threat (the panic) the ego can't carry, and converting it into action.
- **[[Roy]]** — credited as *ROY*. The panic line sounds like Roy-pressure leaking through the performance. The vocal split stays a reading, not a fact — resolvable only by a public credit or clearly audible separation, never fan consensus.
- **Roy English** — the human author, credited *separately* from the two character-vocalists; he also plays **horn** on the track. One of the album's signature devices: the writer and his two masks all listed on the same song.
- **Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader** — named in the lyric; the pop-avatar whose fall *begins* in panic, reinforced by the *"I am your father"* promo captions.
- **MERCY** *(Mercedes Colletta Britton)* — background vocals; a real, recurring album collaborator, not a symbolic figure.
## Symbols
- [[The Mask]] — the *"haha, wow"* lightness performed over a crack.
- [[Concepts/The Circus]] — the place the song may be luring the listener toward; *leave this place* as recruitment.
- [[Concepts/The House and the Vessel]] — *tear the roof off of my house* is the catalogue's clearest image of the vessel's fourth fate: not held, not left, not shattered, but **opened at the top.**
- [[The Moon]] — named in the live card's Hebrew epigraph (*"formed the Moon"*), the heart/lunar pole of the cosmology.
- [[The Mirror]] — the un-fixable *"you"* of *you just love me for my lore*; the pronoun that won't sit still.
## Connected songs
- [[Moths to the Flame]] — the doctrine of abandoning the labor of becoming human; Bounce *enacts* that doctrine as forced motion. Same regression cluster.
- [[Bananas]] — the id-eruption; Bounce is the same cluster's **kinetic evasion** (doctrine → id-eruption → forced motion).
- [[City of Angels]] — Bounce as escalatory denial *after* the cost (replication, upload) has been named; the two are near-neighbors.
- [[Happy Face]] — the *"haha wow"* deflation; performed lightness over a crack, the forced smile.
- [[Playing to the Gods]] — the back-half neighbor Bounce follows; false-immortality machinery.
- [[Superhuman]] — *"ain't got no ceiling up on the roof"*: the open-top / roof motif that Bounce's *tear the roof off* carries across eras.
- [[Welcome to the Circus]] — the other 2026 "Live Underground" manifesto-card song. Its card carried a Hermes riddle where Bounce's carried a Hebrew letter; together they're the first two cards of the *Lucius Lullaby* wave.
> [!note]- Advanced reading — the Beth epigraph: the letter that means "house"
> The live "Bounce (Live Underground)" video opens on a title card printing a passage from the *Sefer Yetzirah* (the [[Symbols/Beth|Beth]] passage): *"HE MADE THE LETTER BETH KING OVER WISDOM. HE BOUND A CROWN TO IT… AND WITH THEM HE FORMED THE MOON…, SUNDAY IN THE YEAR, AND THE RIGHT EYE IN THE SOUL, MALE AND FEMALE."* It's the only Hebrew letter on any Live Underground card so far. The card also prints the song's own motto — *life is short* — over a jaguar/skull sigil, framed *"brought to you by Jagwar Twin."*
>
> **Three independent facts converge on one symbol.** (1) The Hebrew letter **Beth literally means "house."** (2) Bounce is the only work foregrounding Beth. (3) Bounce's chorus is *tear the roof off of my house.* The letter's meaning *is* the lyric's image — which is why Beth is the load-bearing symbol of the whole artifact. See [[Concepts/The House and the Vessel]] and [[Concepts/The Manifesto Cards]].
>
> **The card reads as the album's doctrine encoded.** Through *Beth = house = heart*, the first line — *the letter Beth king over Wisdom* — states the project's foundational pillar: the house-letter (heart) enthroned *as king over* Wisdom (the mind) — *the heart must rule the mind.* Same-verse corroboration: the clause continues *…formed the Moon*, and the Moon is the heart/lunar pole in this cosmology (see [[The Moon]]). Roy chose *this* verse to epigraph a chorus that opens the house at the roof — the heart unsealed, and ruling. Intent isn't the question; the heart-identification routes *through* Beth = house = heart, so it holds as a reading — but it's the single strongest **encoded** instance of the pillar in the catalogue.
>
> **Open question — a coded per-song series?** Bounce's card is the first of the 2026 "Live Underground" wave, and Beth is the first Hebrew letter to appear on any manifesto card. That raised a live question: is each song's card keyed to a letter, spelling something across the setlist? The tidy version — the stable core (Welcome to the Circus, Bounce, Bananas, Lucius Lullaby) resolving to letters whose permutation flips *Babel* into *the heart* — was **weakened, not confirmed**, when the [[Welcome to the Circus]] card arrived carrying a Hermes riddle instead of a Hebrew letter. What survives is looser: *a song-specific esoteric epigraph per card, drawn from the same Hermetic-Kabbalah well.* The decider is still ahead — the **[[Lucius Lullaby|Lucius Lullaby]]** title-track card: a Hebrew letter there would revive a selective cipher; a lyrics-and-riddle card confirms "mixed-tradition epigraph per song" and the strict letter-code is dead. See [[Concepts/The Manifesto Cards]].
> [!note]- Advanced reading — the roof: container into opening
> The lyric reactivates Beth and turns the house from a *container* into an *opening*. Note the target: not *burn the house*, not *leave the house*, but the **roof** specifically — the lid of Beth's own meaning. Removing the roof runs the catalogue's most-repeated move (container → communion) at the level of a single object: closed → open, protected → exposed.
>
> Two confirmations. **Song-internal:** Bounce is vertical motion — *up and down and bounce* — and the roof is the cap on that bounce; tear it off and the upward motion continues unbounded. **Traditional:** the letter Beth is drawn closed on three sides and open only toward the front; *tear the roof off* opens one of the closed sides. The image spans eras — *"ain't got no ceiling up on the roof"* ([[Superhuman]], 2019) → *tear the roof off* (Bounce, 2026) — and the promo language grounds it in the open: *"there is no ceiling except the one that exists in our own mind. Same goes 4 floors."* See [[Concepts/The House and the Vessel]] and [[Concepts/The Sacred Truths/Hermeticism - As Above So Below]].
> [!note]- Advanced reading — the mirror-grammar of "you"
> *You just love me for my lore* is one of the catalogue's deliberately un-fixable second persons (alongside [[LOOP]], [[Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa)|Bad Feeling]], [[Weirdness]], [[Ballerina Boy]]). The *"you"* can't resolve because the underlying doctrine is that **humans are mirrors for each other** — the second person is always also the first. The pronoun that won't sit still is the mirror-doctrine made structural. See [[Concepts/The Speaker Problem]] and [[The Mirror]].
> [!note]- Advanced reading — Babel and the heart (exploratory, not tradition)
> A grounded linguistic fact: בבל (*Babel*) and לבב (*levav*, "heart") are the same three consonants reordered. The symbolic polarity is interpretation — Babel as tower / outward / empire; *levav* as heart / inward / communion. **A caution:** "Babel builds up, Bounce opens down" is synthesis, not received teaching — Genesis does not contrast a tower with a roofless house, and no known classical source reads בבל as an anagram of לבב. Don't present it as tradition. Why it's worth keeping at arm's length: Roy's method is *rearrange, not replace* (integrate Lucius, transform the Loop), and בבל → לבב is that move at the letter level. It sits *below* the Beth / house core. See [[The Flip and the Distorting Mirror — The Deep End]].
> [!note]- Advanced reading — resonances: the cursed dance, the flat laugh, the counting-in
> **The unstoppable dance.** Compulsive *bounce* resonates with cursed-dancing folklore — *The Red Shoes*, the *danse macabre* — where motion is punitive necessity and stopping means confronting the void. A promo caption independently supplied the cosmic-dance frame around the song (*"Kali dances on Shiva. Shiva dances on ignorance."*), though that's paratext, not lyric.
>
> **The deflating outro.** *"Haha, wow"* is the performed-lightness-over-a-crack of [[Happy Face]]'s forced smile — the party exhaling rather than climaxing.
>
> **The dark-nursery cadence.** The *bow-bow-bow* / *ready, set, go* counting-in is a candidate instance of the album's childhood-form method — a nursery rhythm carrying adult dread. An undeveloped lead, flagged not asserted.

## Source notes
- **Grounded (released music, public posts, official videos).** Track 12 of 15 on *Lucius Lullaby* (2026); the four-writer team and production/performer credits (Roy English on horn; the *ROY* + *sir lucius* dual-vocalist device); the 2:12 runtime; the in-lyric *Anakin Skywalker*, the *panicking* question, *lore*, *tear the roof off of my house*, *life is short*; the March 27 "Official Audio" upload (stream link *ffm.to/luciuslullaby*) and the distinct ~April 24 visualizer (underwater bust with face-paint), both carrying the Big Loud Rock / Mercury (UMG) copyright line; the May 17 BMRC "Live Underground" performance, its *Sefer Yetzirah* Beth title card, and the fact that production deliberately recorded the crowd's voices there (*"he wanted the voices"*) — the album's sing-back device enacted live; the #bounce promo campaign ([[Public Posts]]), including the curated epigraph wall of named-author quotes (C. S. Lewis, Steiner ×2, Hermes Trismegistus, [[Influences/Manly P. Hall|Manly P. Hall]] ×2, Yoda, Tolkien, Matthew 10:16), the *"We begin with a house and we end up with a heart"* caption that grounds the house→heart reading in public authorial language, the *"I am your father"* Star Wars captions, and the song's own lines recirculated as posts.
- **Strong readings.** "The song performs evasion in real time"; *don't stop* as the true command; "Anakin = panic weaponized"; *leave this place* as recruitment; the personal-destruction-as-exposure trajectory; the *lore*-as-center reading; the Beth-as-doctrine and roof-as-opening readings; the mirror-grammar of *you*; the regression-cluster placement with [[Moths to the Flame]] and [[Bananas]]. Grounded in the material, but interpretive.
- **Framework (esoteric, syncretic — never authorial intent).** The Beth / house / heart mapping through the *Sefer Yetzirah*; the container-to-opening move; the Babel ⇄ *levav* permutation (explicitly flagged as synthesis, below the core); the cursed-dance and *danse macabre* resonances. The system *permits* these; it doesn't assert Roy intends them.
- **How we'd be wrong.** *Tear the roof off* echoes Parliament-Funkadelic's *"Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)"*; if that's a deliberate interpolation, the possessive *my house* is Roy's deviation from a communal source — which would *support* the self-exposure read rather than undercut it, but the allusion isn't confirmed. And the vocal split (Lucius vs Roy) is genuinely unsettled. One deliberate non-link: a prior pass claimed Bounce's panic line callbacked to an [[I Like to Party]] line via a third "anchor" post — both were fabrications and were struck; there is no such link, and the album has 15 tracks, not 14.
