What the station holds steady is being; what the journey changes is how that being is seen.  *A pencil drawing. Its marks come in mirrored pairs: a B and a reversed B, and two swastikas turning opposite ways. The caption gives the creature a human name and one adjective, *Enoch the imaginary Swan*. Of the ten captions, it is the only one that calls its creature imaginary. On the board's animal column, the Swan's own cell holds a photograph of a real swan on dark water, its body doubled by its reflection. ## What the station does **Continuity comes first, and it is on the page.** The board gives every animal two lines, one for each direction of travel. Coming down, the Swan's line is a dream of being *a point with no beginning and no end*; going up, it is *I was* and *I am*. The drawing hangs a point inside a circle over the head, and a circle has no beginning and no end, so emblem and line read as one idea. Roy's handwritten emanation page puts *I AM* at 1: Crowley's words, set at the first station by the work's arrangement. The numbers agree. The Swan is animal 1, and its code names the crown, 10 on the board's body ladder: first in the descent, last in the body's climb. Of the animal rooms catalogued so far, it is also the only one opened by its own title. As a strong reading built from those pieces, **the Swan is being before and after the journey: the point the ladder comes down from, and the *I am* a traveller recognizes on the way back.** **What changes is the seeing.** [[Another Way II Heaven]] is typed into the same stretch of the board as the animal column, and its opening sits on the Swan's rows: a self alone, long ago, wanting to see itself and where it could go. The song's refrain says the singer sees it differently every time, which reads as the work's most exact account of a return: **the same being, seen differently.** **Where it could lead.** This guide reads one step further. If the Swan is where the descent starts, it is also the imaginable end: the wholeness a divided self could recognize after reconciliation. The song supports that reading, since its last verse looks to a day when everyone gets back together and sees the Great Design, but *reconciliation* is this guide's word, not the work's. The caption's *imaginary* fits: a whole that cannot yet be seen can still be imagined, and the board has its own picture of that.  *"Suggestion of Apex", a Hall of Mirrors drawing. A pyramid is cut off flat below its peak. A small rayed sun floats where the apex would be, with an arrow and the note "suggestion of apex, though not actually in the form", and below it "6 sides".* The crown is suggested, not contained in the form that points to it. The Swan reads as that crown given a creature. **What pushes back.** The song does not end in arrival. Its closing ad-libs warn against ever trying to get away. Heard as a voice it sounds like a captor's (a reading, not a label in the lyric), so the reunion is a horizon held against a voice that forbids leaving. The song also keeps the crown and the Sun apart: midway, the pair's collision makes a Sun inside, while the reunion of everyone is still ahead at the end. This ladder gives the Sun its own seat, at [[Hall of Mirrors/The Bestiary - 6 The Spider (RAPhael)|6 · The Spider]], so this guide treats the Swan's wholeness as a horizon, not as something reached. Roy's dated public posts divide the same way. Some make the two ends one: [*End. Beginning. Others mark a change: [*It's starts with a raven / It ends with a dove*](https://x.com/JagwarTwin/status/1896342350575940040) (2025) and [*Love begins where the ego ends*](https://x.com/JagwarTwin/status/1974323383430225973) (2025). None names Enoch, Kether or reconciliation. The Swan holds both: continuity of being, difference of recognition. ## Where it connects - **[[Another Way II Heaven]]**: the song laid out beside the animal column. Its refrain gives the return its shape. - **[[Hall of Mirrors/The Bestiary - 10 The Rabbit (Lemon)|10 · The Rabbit]]**: the ladder's other end, the feet to the Swan's crown. Both ladder poems open with the same words, *Last night I dreamt I was*, the descending one at the Swan's point and the ascending one at the Rabbit's gate; below the Rabbit, the board's animal column closes on an infinity sign. - **[[Sir Rabbit]]**: the poem's Rabbit leaps through the sun and lands back where he began. Read beside the Swan, that is the beginning-and-end relation told as a story. - **[[Symbols/The Dove|The Dove]]**: Roy's dove is named Cygnus, Latin for swan. The two birds stay separate figures. - **[[tomorrow (ANGLE OF ETERNITY)]]**: ends on a long, repeated *I AM* outro: with six credited writers, an echo of the station's words, not a statement about the Swan. ## In the tradition These are the nearest analogues, not claims about where the drawing came from. - **The swan at the Crown.** Crowley's *777* lists the swan at Kether and explains it as "representing Aum", and the order of birds in Crowley's *The Heart of the Master* also begins with the swan. Agrippa counts the swan among the Sun's and Venus's birds. Dion Fortune, whom Roy has quoted in public, writes in *The Mystical Qabalah* of the "Swan of the Empyrean" laying the egg of manifestation in the dark. - **"I am."** Kether's divine name in the Golden Dawn scheme is *Eheieh*, "I am", the name given in Exodus. - **The swastika forms.** In *777*, Kether's magical weapons are the "Swastika or Fylfot Cross" and the Crown; the swastika is glossed as whirling energy and the beginning of motion, and Kether as "the point from which we measure motion". The drawing's two forms match that weapon by shape and by seat. The swastika is also an ancient sign of good fortune, drawn here in both rotations, and nothing shows the drawing copied *777*. - **Enoch.** Genesis says only that Enoch walked with God and then was gone, taken by God. Later Jewish mystical writing turns Enoch into the angel Metatron, whom the Golden Dawn scheme makes the archangel of Kether, and *777* also lists Metatron, in parentheses, at Malkuth beside Sandalphon: the crown's angel, once a traveller, stands at both ends of the Tree. - **The point in the circle.** The mark over the head is also the astronomer's sign for the Sun; at this seat this guide reads it as the point. ## Open questions - **Why *imaginary*?** Whether the word marks the crown as imaginable but not yet seen, or is simply playful, the drawing does not say. - **What do the mirrored marks do?** A B and a reversed B, and two swastikas turning opposite ways: a crown facing both directions of travel, or ornament. - **Was *777* the route?** Crowley's *The Book of Lies* is copied on the board, which makes *777* a plausible source for the forms, but *777* itself has not been found in the work. --- ← [[Hall of Mirrors/The Bestiary|All the animals]] · [[Hall of Mirrors/The Bestiary - 2 The Owl (RAtziel)|2 · The Owl]] →
