# Songs, Demos & Mints Most of the Hall of Mirrors is things you look at. This section is things you were meant to hear. Here are the audio rooms: voice memos, unreleased demos, lost songs, early-band relics from before Jagwar Twin existed, and the on-chain "mint" rooms tied directly to *33* tracks. Some of it is a song-sized production dressed up as a maze door; some of it is a small phone recording of an idea that never went anywhere else. The Hall keeps both and treats them with the same seriousness, which is either the most romantic thing about it or the most unhinged, depending on your mood. The exact master or mix in a mint room still needs direct comparison before it can be named. ## What this section collects The pieces here fall into three rough families. **The demos and lost songs.** Filed, mostly, in a realm the Hall calls "Concealed Generations" (a name that matches a line on Roy's handwritten emanation page, Crowley's *Father and Mother … concealed in Generation*, copied with Crowley's "GOD" dropped), these are recordings that never got a real release: an early solo demo, a song written for or about a grandmother, a voice memo, a track called *Antarctica* that exists nowhere else. This is the drawer. The mythology's whole archival instinct lives here: proof that a person was making music long before the current name arrived, and that none of it was thrown away. **The early-band relics.** Before Jagwar Twin there was Roy English, and before Roy English there was a band. A shrink-wrapped store copy of an old album, a Sharpie-labeled CD-R, a phone clip of a crowd at a show from a life the project keeps circling back to. These are less about the music than about the fact of it, the earlier self preserved like a specimen. **The mint rooms.** A handful of *33* songs get their own rooms: a wireframe body, a dissolving head, the number 33 rendered in glowing vector lines over ice. Their titles, metadata, and lyrics make the song association grounded rather than speculative. Those facts do not, by themselves, identify the exact audio master, mix, or release file carried by each room. ## How to read them Fifteen of the Hall's sixteen audio rooms have now been checked by ear. The one exception is *I Feel So Happy*: its room is known, but its words, speaker, and performance are not described here until they have been checked the same way. The entries below therefore separate three things that are easy to tangle: what can be heard, what the room's title, code, and filing establish, and what those facts may mean together. A clean transcript does not settle every speaker, source, or interpretation. Where a reading goes beyond the recording, it stays marked as a reading. Later audio rooms beyond the original gallery are gathered in [[Rooms Behind the Gallery]]. ## A word about the codes Some of these unlock codes are phrases with deep provenance: a line handwritten on Roy's *"I'm 33"* board, a title from an old EP, a lyric from the song itself. A few are visual jokes (the code for a room titled *O* is a Zen circle; the code for a room whose title is a ring is the number `0`). And a small number are short letter-and-number strings like `H1066`. Those last ones are not an unsolved mystery. They are cell coordinates: a column letter and a row number pointing at a specific square on Roy's "Spreadsheet Map," the grid behind the *"I'm 33"* board. So when you see one, read it as an address, not a riddle. ## The MINT rooms Five *33* songs live in the Hall as mint rooms. They are the trophy case pretending to be a maze: a song, wrapped in its own image, keyed by a lyric or its own title. The song relation is secure; the exact master or mix remains open until the room audio is compared directly with the release files. Even with that version boundary in place, these are a clean place to start because image, title, and song point in the same direction. --- ## The artifacts ### #1 · LOGOS · `EAST IS EVERYWHERE` <audio src="https://storage.googleapis.com/jagwar-twin-33.appspot.com/artifacts/0x0f3d16fa2fc38a75d31d4ba61ab819f6c8c9717084252263a65bbb7b8a8b652c..mp3" controls preload="none"></audio> Room 1 of the whole maze is a sound. The file is tiny, likely under a minute, so this is a fragment or a sketch rather than a finished piece. What the fragment is could hardly be more fitting: a hushed, breathy performance of *Happy Birthday*, sung with the name-slot left open, *"Happy birthday, dear Someone."* The most familiar melody there is, addressed to no one and so to anyone, is the first thing the maze says (the board elsewhere crowns this very song *"the greatest Song ever written,"* and [[Concepts/Music as Pattern and Identity]] unpacks that name-slot). Toward the end the voice begins to echo and distort, and in the last moment there is what reads to the ear as a low roll of thunder, or feedback, the birthday song dissolving back into the dark it rose out of. The title does the heavy lifting: *Logos* is the creative Word, John's *"in the beginning was the Word,"* and Roy glosses it on the board as *"Logos (Ratio),"* word-as-reason. Filed under *"From Darkness,"* it turns the very first door into a creation myth: the Word that speaks light out of the dark at the threshold of everything. The code, *"East is everywhere,"* reads like a compass with no wrong direction: east is where the sun comes up, so an east that is everywhere is dawn made omnipresent, the source pointing every way at once. The title is the White Knight's punchline in *Through the Looking-Glass*: pressed on what his song is called, he insists *"the name really is 'The Aged Aged Man.'"* The code, `ALICE 211`, points at the exact page where Carroll's dizzying four-level joke about the name of the song, the song, what the song is called, and what the song is, actually sits. Roy seeded the clue in the open: a voice-memo frame on the board captioned *"alice 211 song mirror,"* and the bare string in two Twitter replies of 30 April 2022; Carroll's line *"I saw an aged aged man, a-sitting on a gate"* on the *Down to You* SoundCloud is the code of a different room, [[Artifacts - Gallery 2 (38-74)#70 · THE CITY OF PYRAMIDS|The City of Pyramids]]. This little room is load-bearing for the whole project, because the White Knight's doctrine, that what a song is called and what it *is* are two different things, is the exact hinge the entire Hall of Mirrors turns on. The one-letter title is already a drawing: *O* is a circle. And the code confirms it, `ENSO` is the Zen circle painted in a single unbroken brushstroke, which turns up on Roy's board as *"Enso — Tell Us Who You Are,"* wholeness and mirror in one mark. So a circle-named recording sits in the time realm keyed by the symbol of the whole, which is about as on-message as this cosmology gets. This is the catalogue's biggest song by a mile, tens of millions of streams, Sir Lucius's self-claimed signature product (*"those are me"*), and the Hall lays it in the grave rather than the trophy case. The code, *"World gone mad,"* is a verbatim line from the song (*"Flip the switch, flip the stove / World gone mad, let's start the show"*), the exact moment the toxic-positivity performance kicks off: the world's madness is the cue to put the smile on. Its code is its own title reversed letter by letter, spaces and case aside, and re-cut into three words: `RORRIM EHTNI LIVED` is *Devil In The Mirror* run backwards, making reversal part of the door's mechanism as well as its name. The phrase has older Eye Alaska lineage: *Rorrim Ehtni* appears as a fictional credit, and *The Legion Night (Rorrim Ehtni Lived)* supplies a close title relation. That does not prove this audio is the same composition. Mid-clip the disc turns through a full rotation, and while its back faces the camera the texture reads mirrored, so the video performs its own title, since *RORRIM EHTNI LIVED* is *Devil In The Mirror* in mirror-reverse (Roy has warned that things *"tend to flip when inside the Hall of Mirrors"*). Its title is the key to room 17, the audio room, though what this disc holds is not established, and the disc's own name, *Genesis underground*, surfaces later as another artifact. The code `H1066` is a spreadsheet cell coordinate, a column-and-row address on the *"I'm 33"* grid, not a puzzle in its own right. The exact identity of every supporting voice remains open. The room files that layered family-and-prayer collage under *"Concealed Generations"* and keys it with *"The Lightning Flash,"* the Kabbalistic path of emanation down the Tree of Life. That makes lineage-as-transmission a strong reading: a grandmother's voice travels down into the recording while prayer, signal, light, and generation share one channel. The code, *"FearLove,"* is a biographical pointer: Roy English put out a solo EP titled *Fearlove* around 2011, right after Eye Alaska broke up. So a 2010 demo called *The Future* is unlocked by the name of the era it was actually heading into, a small, neat loop where the past song is opened by its own future. The fear-and-love pairing in the code also chimes with the catalogue's recurring fear-versus-heart axis, but that's a resonance; the EP link is the grounded reading. It tells the same origin story in a looser form: a maker jaguar teaches others to sing; later kings tell the Jagwars they never could sing; she hides the song inside their wings; and a wise one hears it again while empires build cages and sell everything. The recurring instruction is to go to *"the inside of the inside,"* and the coda remembers the *song of the ring* — never *rain*, an earlier machine-transcription error. That makes its *"Genesis Formula"* filing literal as well as thematic: this is a preserved generative state of a later released song. The code `0` draws the ring it names and joins Room 4's `ENSO` in the zero-circle family. The closing signal is sent toward home. It is a secrecy-and-contact story, not an undescribed file behind a known door. Its code looks like line noise but is the Mac Option-key layer: `ÇŨ†ˆØ˜®Ø¥` decodes to *"CAUTION ROY."* The same keyboard method appears elsewhere in the Hall. An unnamed man opens by describing the wish to be *"special and unique … and elite"*; a second speaker begins later with the admission that wanting people to think he was great helped drive him into music. The transcript and that speaker change are secure; identifying the second voice as Roy remains the current attribution, not a fact supplied by the words alone. Checked by ear, the recording layers children's voices and owl calls around questions of identity. The head becomes an elevator, the speaker descends eight floors, and a fire escape appears as the possible route out. That gives the fragment a real interior architecture: mind as a house one can move down through, with escape imagined but not completed. It connects naturally to Sense Hierarchy's structure inside a head and Thought Forms' account of mental images. The code, *"What is it that you seek?",* is the song's opening question verbatim (*"What is it that you seek? / In your mind, you must be it"*), and the image just draws the lyric: the human dissolved into the same mesh as the cosmos, the light lit from inside rather than handed down, the galaxy staging *"Heaven in the sky to the Earth below"* as one continuous field. This is the mint room for the released song *Another Way II Heaven*, so the tie is definitional. The code, *"Genesis Tree Code,"* names the song's two engines at once: *Genesis*, its first-person creation myth (*"Back long ago / I was just me… / I spoke the words / 'One, become Two'"*), and *Tree*, the Tree-of-Life emanation the lyric counts through (*"From One and through Eleven"*). The transparent form gives the song's lonely *"I"* something to look through. It can read as the moment before *"One, become Two"*: a self wanting to see itself. It sits at the very floor of the mythology: the generating rule, unity divides to know itself and promises to reunite, that mirrors, doubles, and the Circle all fall out of. The code is also the name of the room holding Roy's handwritten emanation page, a numbered copy of the opening chapter of Crowley's *The Book of Lies*, and the song follows the page rather than Crowley: at station 2 Crowley has *I utter The Word*, the page changes it to *I speak the word*, and the song sings *I spoke the words*. This is the mint room for *Imagine A World*, track 9 of *33*, and its code is simply the song's own title. The song's creation language can be read beside the board's final rung, *"10. The World,"* as a thematic rhyme; that does not make this song the Tree diagram's key or endpoint. The exact neighboring relay is different: `Genesis Tree Code` opens the *Another Way II Heaven* mint. The code, *"The Great Jagwar,"* reads as naming the song's central mythic figure: the feminine maker, the *"Jagwar with a world tied on a string"* who makes the other Jagwars and teaches them to sing, the same Great Jagwar that recurs in Roy's hand-drawn cosmology. The parenthetical *"(Early Roy)"* is the key: this is documentary footage from Roy English's performing life before Jagwar Twin, the band era before the solo mythos, and *"Can't Lie"* reads as a title from that earlier catalogue rather than any released Jagwar Twin song.
