# El Roi > **One-line reading.** *El Roi* — Hebrew, אל ראי, *"the God who sees me"* — is the name Hagar gives God in Genesis 16, worn on the **throat of Sir Lucius**: the figure made entirely of reflection, wearing the divine seer's name on the organ of speech. Seeing is this project's deepest verb — the mirror, the jaguar that looks first into itself, witnessing against surveillance — and *El Roi* is where the whole motif condenses into two words of ink. In the theatrical [[The Interview]] videos, [[Sir Lucius]] wears the Hebrew on his neck, alongside the white face paint and the black X's under the eyes. And Roy signs his lore *"I love you — El Roy"*: his own name folded into the same scripture (Roy / Roi / *the one who sees*). Which is exactly why its placement is so loaded. The mark doesn't sit on the seer's eye — it sits on **Lucius's throat**, the organ of utterance. Every word the mirror-figure speaks passes through *"the God who sees me."* A figure whose entire nature is reflection claims the *seen* position while performing the *seer's* role. As the [[Roy]] page puts it: that overlap is either the project's deepest irony or its deepest honesty. ## One name, two bearers - **On Lucius** — a **character marking**, not a tattoo on Roy's real body. The cluster (Hebrew neck-mark, face paint, inverted cheek-cross) appears only on Lucius in the videos, and Lucius literally sings *"paint my face"* in [[Welcome to the Circus]]. Held as the best available reading until a frame or statement settles it — the full case lives on [[Roy's Tattoos]]. - **On Roy** — the *"El Roy"* signature is real and grounded: the pun that makes his own name mean *the one who sees*. It seeds the mission statement on his page (*"to be a mirror — the clearest mirror I can be"*) and the whole seeing-system radiating out from it. Point the three letters **ר-א-י** differently and a family of the project's own core words falls out — a tight cluster of real overlaps, not infinite meaning: > - **רֹאִי · *ro'i*** — "my seeing / the one who sees me."
