# The Roy and Lucius Arc > **The thread.** A wounded self builds a protector to survive — and then has to find out whether the protector has become a prison. This is the spine of the whole Jagwar Twin world. Almost everything else hangs off the relationship between the heart and the mind that was supposed to serve it. Read in this order, the arc moves from the two figures, to the shadow-frame that explains how one became the other, to the album where the shadow finally gets to speak, and out to the idea that tells you which way the story is pointing. ## The route 1. [[Roy]] — start with the heart: the vulnerable, authentic self the whole project is trying to return to. Everything else is defined in relation to him. 2. [[Sir Lucius]] — the mind divorced from the heart. He emerged to protect Roy and genuinely held the light through the dark years; the danger is that the protector becomes the prison. 3. [[Concepts/The Dweller on the Threshold]] — the frame that explains the turn: the guardian at the edge of your inner world, made entirely of what you've refused to face. Lucius reads as exactly that figure. 4. [[Welcome to the Circus]] — hear Lucius at full external power, naming himself the final boss. This is the protector at its most armored and least like a protector. 5.
