# Alice Bailey > **One-line reading.** Alice Bailey wrote the map Roy actually teaches from: the Twelve Labors of Hercules as the soul's inner zodiac — twelve faculties tested, the ego demoted but not destroyed, and a wheel that turns both ways. Bailey is the rare influence where nothing needs inferring. Roy keeps three of her quotes in his public influences. He photographed a hand-underlined page of her *Labours of Hercules* to his Instagram Story, captioned *"Alice Bailey ⚔."* He transcribed her virtue-and-vice scale into his own conceptual spreadsheet — the [[Concepts/The I'm 33 Board]] — in his own hand. And in a livestream over morning cacao, to about fifty people, he named the book outright and taught its core idea as his own: *"a book by Alice Bailey called The Twelve Labours of Hercules, and Hercules, which is the soul, which is us, the initiate, goes through all twelve signs of the zodiac… but we all have these inside of us… in different aspects of our life."* ## At a glance - **In one line** — the Labors read not as myth-adventure but as initiation manual: the soul elects its trials, tames rather than slays, and reverses the direction of the wheel. - **Where it shows up** — [[Concepts/The Labors of Hercules]] (her book, read Roy's way — the deep dive lives there); [[Concepts/The Loop and the Circle]] (her wheel-reversal is its cleanest source-anchor); [[Concepts/The Dweller on the Threshold]] (her *Glamour* doctrine); [[Concepts/The Algorithm]] (*"illusion, propaganda, and mass suggestion"*); [[Concepts/The I'm 33 Board]] (her scale, his hand). - **Connected ideas** — [[Kabbalah - The Tree of Life]] · [[Concepts/The Pattern]] · [[Concepts/The Light-Bearer]] · [[Roy on Influences]]. - **Confidence** — Roy's personal use of Bailey is grounded (livestream, Story, board). Mapping *specific songs* to *specific labors* is a strong reading, and the Lucis name-resonance below is framework only. ## What the work takes from her **The Labors as a soul-map.** Bailey reorders the Twelve Labors zodiacally — Aries through Pisces — and reads them as the stages by which a person moves from sleeping, mechanical existence into integrated, awakened being. That is the spine of [[Concepts/The Labors of Hercules]], and Roy has taught at least three of the labors publicly, applying his own natal placements as he goes. **Election.** In Bailey's telling the trial must be *chosen* — the soul volunteers. The catalogue's version is the conditional in its most load-bearing lyric: *"but if you **choose** to tame The Beast."* No conscription; a champion is someone who signed up. **Integration, not destruction.** Bailey's Leo labor preserves the lion's power and changes only its authority — the same operation Jung calls shadow work, arrived at from the esoteric side. The project runs both vocabularies at once (see [[Carl Jung]]). **The wheel that reverses.** Bailey: *"Hercules, the soul, follows the true Way, reverses the usual procedure and, figuratively speaking, goes against the tide."* Same wheel, opposite direction — ordinary humanity rides it one way, the disciple turns and walks it the other. This is the cleanest single source-anchor for the project's foundational dyad, [[Concepts/The Loop and the Circle]]: the Loop and the Circle are the same shape; direction is everything. **The Dweller on the Threshold.** From *Glamour: A World Problem*: illusion belongs to the mental plane, glamour to the emotional, maya to the etheric — and their combined sum in a personality is the Dweller, *"the figure met at every gate of real change."* The project's antagonist, in other words, has doctrine behind his job title (see [[Concepts/The Dweller on the Threshold]]). **Illusion as the world-problem.** All three Bailey quotes Roy curates pivot on it: *"Illusion is the first product of the mind when it is divorced from the soul."* *"The path of liberation leads through the midst of the world of illusion."* *"The world is today the victim of illusion, propaganda, and mass suggestion."* Mind divorced from soul; the way out leading *through*, not around; the crowd managed by unreality — that's [[Sir Lucius]], the arc, and [[Concepts/The Algorithm]] in three sentences she wrote decades early. **Life-force economics.** The board transcribes her language on the sun and money as *"externalized Life Force"* — energy on the physical plane, intelligence on the mental. It's the cosmological reason solar imagery, attention, and money keep braiding together in this catalogue, [[SOL]] included. > [!note]- Advanced reading — the Lucis Trust resonance, with guardrail > Bailey founded the **Lucis Trust** (1922), whose publishing arm began life as the **Lucifer Publishing Company** before the 1925 rename. *Lucis*, *Lucifer*, *Lucius*: one *lux* root, three doors down from each other. Tempting — and the guide holds it firmly at resonance: this is convergence *within* a shared Theosophical substrate, **not** evidence that Roy named Lucius after the Trust. *Lucius* already means light; the overlap resolves on its own. Whether Roy has ever connected the two stays an open question, answerable only by a Roy-sourced statement. > [!note]- Advanced reading — license the lens, not a master key > Since Roy named the book, the question is never "is Bailey here?" — she is. The question is whether a given song actually maps to a given labor, or whether a stated interest is being back-fitted onto unrelated material. Roy supplies the warning himself: *"I would map a crow onto Mercury, but that's just personal. I don't recommend you do it."* One further caution from [[Concepts/Jacob and Esau]]: a "Jacob/Esau reading from Alice Bailey" is sometimes claimed in fan spaces — treat any such quote as unverified until it's pulled from a named Bailey volume with a page number. ## Source notes - **Grounded — Roy's own engagement.** The livestream teaching (~May 2026: names the book, teaches the Cancer labor, gives his placements); the Instagram Story of the hand-underlined Labor VII page, captioned *"Alice Bailey ⚔"* (the densest underline: *"the perversity that upholds the opposite of what is said"*); the three curated quotes; the board's Bailey-derived scale in Roy's hand; the June 2026 feed in her martial register (*"the time has come to slay the lion,"* *"We must master our stars"*). - **Strong readings.** Specific song-to-labor mappings; the Loop/Circle dyad's dependence on the wheel-reversal. - **Framework.** The three Crosses, the two cosmic gates, the esoteric anatomy, and the Lucis resonance — named as Bailey's system, never as Roy's statement. ## Read next - [[Concepts/The Labors of Hercules]] — the full treatment of her book, Roy's way. - [[Concepts/The Loop and the Circle]] — the wheel-reversal as the project's keystone. - [[Concepts/The Dweller on the Threshold]] — her *Glamour* doctrine embodied. - [[Concepts/The I'm 33 Board]] — her scale, transcribed in Roy's hand. - [[Carl Jung]] — the same integration move, from the clinical side. - [[Roy on Influences]] — the rest of the named lineage.
