# The Bestiary — The Equations > **▶ The second series.** The ten creatures of **[[Hall of Mirrors/The Bestiary|the Bestiary]]** appear in the maze a second time, not as drawings but as a family of locked doors whose *names* are plain identities: *Rabbit = Man*, *Cat = Moon*, *Fox = Mind*, *Dove = Heart*, *Spider = Sun*, *Sun = 6*. And behind those doors, page by page, is a poem. The Portraits are the pictures; these names are the meanings; the poem is the story that walks them. --- ## Same ladder, stated as identities The [Portraits](Hall%20of%20Mirrors/The%20Bestiary.md) draw each animal as a planet and a body part. This second series drops the picture and states the equation flat, and read as a set the identities are **textbook Qabalah**, the standard correspondences of the Tree of Life: - **Rabbit = Man** — Malkuth, the Kingdom, the human station at the foot of the Tree. - **Cat = Moon** — Yesod, the lunar seat. - **Fox = Mind** — Hod, the seat of Mercury and the intellect. - **Dove = Heart** — Netzach, the seat of Venus and love. - **Spider = Sun** — Tiphareth, the solar heart at the centre of the Tree. - **Sun = 6** — and this one is the tell: **only the sephirotic system numbers the Sun *six*.** Tiphareth is the sixth seat, so "Sun = 6" is a fingerprint of exactly this map. These are not this guide's guesswork, and they are not obscure. The same scheme is taught by the two Qabalah books evidenced inside the project, Dion Fortune's *Mystical Qabalah* and W.G. Gray's *Ladder of Lights*; the cat's own board-line, *"the Moon was a machine, eclipsed,"* is close to Fortune's phrase for the Moon-seat vision, the "Machinery of the Universe." ## The chain: each room's name is the next room's key The rooms are not just a list. They are **locked in sequence**: the *name* of each room is the *unlock code* of the next one. Type one room's title into the next door and it opens. Followed in order, the codes trace a single continuous climb from the bottom of the Tree upward: > **Standing at the gate of the world** &nbsp;·&nbsp; *the entry phrase* > ↓ > **Rabbit = Man** &nbsp;·&nbsp; Malkuth, the Kingdom > ↓ > **Cat = Moon** &nbsp;·&nbsp; Yesod, the Moon > ↓ > **Fox = Mind** &nbsp;·&nbsp; Hod, the intellect > ↓ > **Dove = Heart** &nbsp;·&nbsp; Netzach, the heart > ↓ > **Spider = Sun** &nbsp;·&nbsp; Tiphareth, the solar centre > ↓ > **Sun = 6** &nbsp;·&nbsp; the Sun named as the sixth seat > ↓ > **About the constellations** &nbsp;·&nbsp; out past the planets, to the stars > ↓ > **Sir Rabbit & The Lightning Flash** &nbsp;·&nbsp; *the chain closes* This is why the second series matters: **it makes the first one walkable.** The Portraits are the map; this chain is a working path up that map, a door-by-door ascent from the Kingdom, through the Moon, the Mind and the Heart, to the Sun. ## Behind the doors: the Sir Rabbit poem Open those doors in order and you are not reading equations, you are turning the pages of a poem. Each room holds a page of **[[Sir Rabbit]]**, the fable saved in Roy's phone notes (dated *"Finished 1//22"*), and the locked chain is the poem's own **pagination**: the entry room is a photograph of a rabbit, and from there each code turns to the next page. And the poem walks the exact ladder the equations name. Sir Rabbit sets out from *"a garden full of sound,"* and: - at the **Moon**, *"a very strange Cat came bounding by / And said get on my back,"* carrying him up to *"The Violet Moon [that] was a machine / With whirling gears"* — the same lunar machine the cat's caption names, in Yesod's own violet; - at the **Mind**, a **Fox** sets him *"The Game of Many Things"* and a box whose whole lesson is *"The key is hidden in yourself";* - at the **Heart**, *"A Dove was waiting for him in an emerald garden tree / He held a lamp before him"* — the very lamp the [Dove portrait](Hall%20of%20Mirrors/The%20Bestiary.md) is drawn holding; - at the **Sun**, *"A Spider with a golden cape appeared,"* names him (*"You are someone... asleep in bed you're dreaming all the time"*) and leads him to *"The Divide";* - and at the end, *"With one great leap Sir Rabbit soared straight through the Mourning Sun / And in a flash of lighting he was back where he begun."* So the whole ladder can be met **three ways at once**: **drawn** (the Portraits), **stated** (these equations), and **narrated** (the poem the doors open onto). The two series are the two the maze files as bestiaries; the poem is the thread running through the second one. ## The ascent it spells Read in chain order, the identities are a clean **ascent of the personality**: **body → Moon → Mind → Heart → solar Self.** The material human at the Gate wakes into the lunar imagination, is taught by the intellect that the key is inside him, is met at the heart by the Dove with her lamp, and arrives at the Sun, where the Spider tells him what he is. It is the textbook shape of the inner climb, laid out one locked door at a time, and the poem gives it a plot. Its ending is the shape the whole catalogue keeps returning to. The leap is *"through the Mourning Sun,"* a sun of grief and a morning sun at once, and it lands *"back where he begun"* — an ascent that closes as a **return**, not an escape (see [[Concepts/The Loop and the Circle]]). ## Where it is filed The two series sit on **two different shelves**, and the split reads like a sentence. The [Portraits](Hall%20of%20Mirrors/The%20Bestiary.md) are all filed under *Unseen Things / Concealed Generations*, the hidden shelf. This second series is filed under **_Seeds of Infinity / Childhood_**, with the entry set one realm deeper, in *From Darkness*. **The pictures are concealed; the meanings are planted as a seed.** ## A note on three rabbits Three rabbits are easy to blur, so this guide keeps them apart. The poem's hero is **[[Sir Rabbit]]**, the seeker (the project places him "pre-Lucius"); the *drawn* rabbit at the Kingdom is **Lemon**, from the [Portraits](Hall%20of%20Mirrors/The%20Bestiary.md); and the board's ladder has its own Rabbit lines. They **share the Kingdom seat**, but whether they are one figure is left open. What is clear from the poem itself is the ending: it does not close in shadow, it closes on the leap and the return. --- ## The rooms themselves The eight rooms of the chain, in order. **Behind each door is a page of the poem** (the entry, *Rabbit = Man*, is a photograph of a rabbit).
