# Songs, Demos & Mints Most of the Hall of Mirrors is things you look at. This section is things you were meant to hear. Here are the audio rooms: voice memos, unreleased demos, lost songs, early-band relics from before Jagwar Twin existed, and the on-chain "mint" rooms that hold the finished *33* tracks as objects you can hold. Some of it is a fully mastered single dressed up as a maze door. Some of it is a 2.6 MB phone recording of a man humming an idea that never went anywhere else. The Hall keeps both, and treats them with the same seriousness, which is either the most romantic thing about it or the most unhinged, depending on your mood. ## What this section collects The pieces here fall into three rough families. **The demos and lost songs.** Filed, mostly, in a realm the Hall calls "Concealed Generations," these are recordings that never got a real release: an early solo demo, a song written for or about a grandmother, a voice memo, a track called *Antarctica* that exists nowhere else. This is the drawer. The mythology's whole archival instinct lives here: proof that a person was making music long before the current name arrived, and that none of it was thrown away. **The early-band relics.** Before Jagwar Twin there was Roy English, and before Roy English there was a band. A shrink-wrapped store copy of an old album, a Sharpie-labeled CD-R, a phone clip of a crowd at a show from a life the project keeps circling back to. These are less about the music than about the fact of it, the earlier self preserved like a specimen. **The mint rooms.** A handful of finished *33* songs get their own rooms, each one holding the released track as an object: a wireframe body, a dissolving head, the number 33 rendered in glowing vector lines over ice. Here the connection to the song is not a reading. It is the point. The room *is* the song, staged as an image. ## How to read them A quick, honest note first: the audio rooms are read here from the outside. What is described below comes from each room's title, its unlock code, and where the Hall files it, not from a track-by-track listen. So when an entry says a demo "probably" does something, believe the "probably." The door has been examined; the song behind it is often still sealed. That constraint turns out to be useful. It forces the reading down to what is actually knowable: the name of the room, the key that opens it, the neighborhood it lives in. And those three things, over and over, turn out to be doing real work. ## A word about the codes Some of these unlock codes are phrases with deep provenance: a line handwritten on Roy's *"I'm 33"* board, a title from an old EP, a lyric from the song itself. A few are visual jokes (the code for a room titled *O* is a Zen circle; the code for a room whose title is a ring is the number `0`). And a small number are short letter-and-number strings like `H1066`. Those last ones are not an unsolved mystery. They are cell coordinates: a column letter and a row number pointing at a specific square on Roy's "Spreadsheet Map," the grid behind the *"I'm 33"* board. So when you see one, read it as an address, not a riddle. ## The MINT rooms Five of the finished *33* songs live in the Hall as mint rooms. They are the trophy case pretending to be a maze: the released track, wrapped in its own image, keyed by a line from its own lyrics or its own title. If you want to understand how a Jagwar Twin song thinks, these are the cleanest place to start, because the room agrees with the song out loud. --- ## The artifacts ### #1 · LOGOS · `EAST IS EVERYWHERE` Room 1 of the whole maze is a sound. The file is tiny, likely under a minute, so this is a fragment or a sketch rather than a finished piece. The title does the heavy lifting: *Logos* is the creative Word, John's *"in the beginning was the Word,"* and Roy glosses it in his own hand on the board as *"Logos (Ratio),"* word-as-reason. Filed under *"From Darkness,"* it turns the very first door into a creation myth: the Word that speaks light out of the dark at the threshold of everything. The code, *"East is everywhere,"* reads like a compass with no wrong direction: east is where the sun comes up, so an east that is everywhere is dawn made omnipresent, the source pointing every way at once. A fitting first breath for a maze that never stops telling you to wake up. **Connects to →** [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[Concepts/The Pattern]] · [[Kabbalah - The Tree of Life]] ### #2 · AN AGED AGED MAN · `ALICE 211` Room 2's sound sits in the *"Illumination"* realm. The title is the White Knight's punchline in *Through the Looking-Glass*: pressed on what his song is called, he insists *"the name really is 'The Aged Aged Man.'"* The code, `ALICE 211`, points at the exact page where Carroll's dizzying four-level joke about the name of the song, the song, what the song is called, and what the song is, actually sits. Roy seeded the clue in the open: a voice-memo frame on the board captioned *"alice 211 song mirror,"* and Carroll's line *"I saw an aged aged man, a-sitting on a gate"* posted as a marked hint on the *Down to You* SoundCloud. This little room is load-bearing for the whole project, because the White Knight's doctrine, that what a song is called and what it *is* are two different things, is the exact hinge the entire Hall of Mirrors turns on. The title itself comes back later as another room's key. **Connects to →** [[Down to You]] · [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[Concepts/Source vs Reflection]] · [[Concepts/Inversion]] ### #4 · O (444DEMO) · `ENSO` An unreleased demo called *O*, filed in the Hall's time realm (*"Time Garden"*). The one-letter title is already a drawing: *O* is a circle. And the code confirms it, `ENSO` is the Zen circle painted in a single unbroken brushstroke, which turns up on Roy's board as *"Enso — Tell Us Who You Are,"* wholeness and mirror in one mark. So a circle-named song sits in the time realm keyed by the symbol of the whole, which is about as on-message as this cosmology gets. The *"444"* almost certainly nods to Roy's documented habit of tuning Jagwar Twin songs to 444 Hz as a *"healing frequency,"* marking this as a tuned sketch rather than a dated one. **Connects to →** [[Happy Face]] · [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[The Circle]] · [[Roy]] ### #14 · HAPPY FACE (MINT ROOM) · `WORLD GONE MAD` *(mint room, no media file)* The mint room for *Happy Face*, filed, with real nerve, in the realm the Hall calls BURIED. This is the catalogue's biggest song by a mile, tens of millions of streams, Sir Lucius's self-claimed signature product (*"those are me"*), and the Hall lays it in the grave rather than the trophy case. The code, *"World gone mad,"* is a verbatim line from the song (*"Flip the switch, flip the stove / World gone mad, let's start the show"*), the exact moment the toxic-positivity performance kicks off: the world's madness is the cue to put the smile on. Choosing that line as the key instead of the sunny hook drags the dark verse out from under the mantra, which is precisely the *"Trojan Horse"* design Roy has said the song was built on. **Connects to →** [[Happy Face]] · [[Sir Lucius]] · [[The Mask]] · [[Concepts/The Loop and the Circle]] ### #17 · DEVIL IN THE MIRROR · `RORRIM EHTNI LIVED` An early, unreleased recording, filed under *"Phantoms of the Past,"* the Hall's shelf of old-era material. Its code is its own title spelled backwards: `RORRIM EHTNI LIVED` is *Devil In The Mirror* reversed, and it is the single reversal code in the entire maze, which makes this room the anchor of Roy's long obsession with mirrors and running things backwards (*"how do you reverse a mirror?", "born in reverse"*). The name goes surprisingly deep: *"Rorrim Ehtni"* was a fictional author credited on two Eye Alaska tracks back in 2008–09, one of them literally titled *"The Legion Night (Rorrim Ehtni Lived)."* So the devil-in-the-mirror figure, the proto-Lucius twin, was named by Roy at twenty, and the board later writes the phrase out again in mirror-script. The Hall even rhymes the room with itself: this audio's title is the *title* of a separate video room, one door named for another, the mirror reflecting the mirror. **Connects to →** [[Lucius Lullaby]] · [[Long Time Coming]] · [[Sir Lucius]] · [[The Mirror]] · [[Concepts/Inversion]] ### #26 · RORRIM EHTNI LIVED · `H1066` Three silent seconds of a burned CD-R hand-labeled *"Genesis"* on top and *"underground"* below, sitting open in a jewel case on weathered pallet slats. Mid-clip the whole image flips left-to-right and flips back, so the video performs its own title, since *RORRIM EHTNI LIVED* is *Devil In The Mirror* in mirror-reverse (Roy has warned that things *"tend to flip when inside the Hall of Mirrors"*). This is the physical disc for the audio two rooms up: its title is that room's key, and the disc's own name, *Genesis underground*, surfaces later as another artifact. The code `H1066` is a spreadsheet cell coordinate, a column-and-row address on the *"I'm 33"* grid, not a puzzle in its own right. Biographically, a Sharpie-labeled CD-R from a ten-pack of jewel cases is a pre-fame demo object: *"Genesis underground"* reads as an origin-era recording, here re-presented as a scanned relic. **Connects to →** [[Lucius Lullaby]] · [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[The Mirror]] · [[Concepts/Inversion]] · [[Roy]] ### #36 · GRANDMA'S SONG · `THE LIGHTNING FLASH` An unreleased demo titled *Grandma's Song*, filed under *"Concealed Generations."* The code, *"The Lightning Flash,"* is the Kabbalistic Flaming Sword, the zigzag path that emanation takes down through the ten Sephiroth of the Tree of Life, a shape Roy diagrams himself elsewhere in the Hall and draws on the board. So a family keepsake gets paired with the Tree's downward transmission of the divine spark, and read against its realm the grandmother becomes a *"concealed generation"* in that descent: lineage as the lightning path, ancestry as how the current comes down through the family. It belongs to Roy's wider matrilineal thread (the Grandma Vi material, the bedside photo, the family cow), his feminine-source vein, though whether this particular demo is about, for, or from that grandmother can't be settled without hearing it. **Connects to →** [[Weirdness]] · [[Kabbalah - The Tree of Life]] · [[Concepts/The Pattern]] · [[Roy]] ### #60 · THE FUTURE (2010 DEMO) · `FEARLOVE` An unreleased demo, *The Future (2010 Demo)*, filed under *"Concealed Generations"* alongside *Grandma's Song* and *Antarctica*. The code, *"FearLove,"* is a biographical pointer: Roy English put out a solo EP titled *Fearlove* around 2011, right after Eye Alaska broke up. So a 2010 demo called *The Future* is unlocked by the name of the era it was actually heading into, a small, neat loop where the past song is opened by its own future. The fear-and-love pairing in the code also chimes with the catalogue's recurring fear-versus-heart axis, but that's a resonance; the EP link is the grounded reading. **Connects to →** [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[Roy]] ### #73 · SONG OF THE RING (VOICE MEMO) · `0` An unreleased voice memo, and one of only two rooms filed in the Hall's *"Genesis Formula"* realm (the other being the Sir Rabbit poem), which marks it as an origin piece. The code, `0`, just enacts the title: a zero is a ring, and it doubles as the origin-point and the void, exactly right for a Genesis filing (a close cousin of Room 4's *Enso*, in the same zero-circle-ring family). The catalogue tags the memo with a jaguar and a strand of DNA, framing it as part of the creature's genetic origin story: a song carried in the animal's code, which is precisely the myth *The Circle* tells. What the recording actually contains is still undescribed, which is its own kind of appropriate: the origin room keeps its secret. **Connects to →** [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[The Circle]] · [[Roy]] ### #109 · ANTARCTICA (LOST SONG) · `ÇŨ†ˆØ˜®Ø¥` A lost song, *Antarctica*, filed under *"Concealed Generations"* with the other unreleased demos, the archival vein where music from Roy's pre-Jagwar-Twin drawer surfaces. The code looks like line noise but isn't: `ÇŨ†ˆØ˜®Ø¥` is the Mac Option-key layer, each glyph an Option-plus-letter, and it decodes to *"CAUTION ROY."* It's the same keyboard cipher that keys the *Marduk* room, and one of the very few codes that names Roy directly, reading as a warning addressed to or about him. Nothing in the released catalogue mentions Antarctica or the decoded phrase, so this one stays genuinely unseen: a titled warning on a door with a lost song behind it. **Connects to →** [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[Roy]] ### #116 · EVERYBODY'S GOING TO SPACE NOW · `EVERYBODY'S GOING TO SPACE NOW` An unreleased recording filed under *"Concealed Generations,"* the drawer of Roy's personal demos. It is self-keyed: the unlock code is simply its own title. The line itself lands as a wry read on the 2021–22 billionaire space-race mood, the escape-velocity fantasy where *everybody's* going to space now, meaning of course that almost nobody is; that gloss is interpretation, pending an actual listen, but it fits the catalogue's habit of using a bright pop title to carry a dry joke. **Connects to →** [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[Roy]] ### #136 · HOUSE OF SPELLS (CUZ_IDEA) · `HOUSE OF SPELLS` An unreleased demo, *House of Spells (Cuz_idea)*, filed under *"Concealed Generations"* with the rest of the archival material, and self-keyed like its neighbors: the code is just the title. The parenthetical *"Cuz_idea"* reads as a working-title scrawl, a raw idea, plausibly one made with or sparked by a cousin (*"cuz"*), which marks this as an unpolished sketch rather than a finished track. Its place in the cosmology is simply archival: an unseen, never-released fragment kept safe inside the Hall, one more piece of Roy's concealed drawer surfaced into the maze. **Connects to →** [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[Roy]] · [[Concepts/The Upload]] ### #142 · DOWN TO YOU · `WHAT IS IT THAT YOU SEEK?` A translucent wireframe human figure sits in a lotus pose at the dead center of a spiral galaxy, a bright light kindling at its core and swelling as it rotates and fills the frame. This is the mint room for the released *33* track *Down to You*, so the tie to the song is simply a fact. The code, *"What is it that you seek?",* is the song's opening question verbatim (*"What is it that you seek? / In your mind, you must be it"*), and the image just draws the lyric: the human dissolved into the same mesh as the cosmos, the light lit from inside rather than handed down, the galaxy staging *"Heaven in the sky to the Earth below"* as one continuous field. The whole thing renders the song's central claim in one picture, that divinity is located in the self, not acquired from outside, the *"you are the one"* placed at the center of everything. **Connects to →** [[Down to You]] · [[Concepts/The Pattern]] · [[Kabbalah - The Tree of Life]] · [[The Circle]] · [[Roy]] ### #143 · ANOTHER WAY II HEAVEN · `GENESIS TREE CODE` A photogrammetric scan of a human head-and-shoulders: a triangulated mesh face that materializes against violet, then dissolves to a bare wireframe on black, the person reduced to the lattice underneath. This is the mint room for the released song *Another Way II Heaven*, so the tie is definitional. The code, *"Genesis Tree Code,"* names the song's two engines at once: *Genesis*, its first-person creation myth (*"Back long ago / I was just me… / I spoke the words / 'One, become Two'"*), and *Tree*, the Tree-of-Life emanation the lyric counts through (*"From One and through Eleven"*). The dissolving mesh literalizes the song's core move, a lonely *"I"* that can't know itself alone splitting into a reflected *"You"* and multiplying outward, the single form breaking into a web of points so it can finally see itself. It sits at the very floor of the mythology: the generating rule, unity divides to know itself and promises to reunite, that mirrors, doubles, and the Circle all fall out of. **Connects to →** [[Another Way II Heaven]] · [[Concepts/The Pattern]] · [[Kabbalah - The Tree of Life]] · [[The Circle]] ### #144 · IMAGINE A WORLD · `IMAGINE A WORLD` A translucent, membrane-textured form, clear rippling plastic with red edging, churns and hangs over a red desert canyon, the whole frame bordered in the album's signature red. This is the mint room for *Imagine A World*, track 9 of *33*, so the code is just the song's title. The song is the album's capstone before the closer, an *"imagine it, create it"* invitation that lands on Eden relocated inside the self (*"look inside you'll see it… you just gotta conceive it"*), and the title also names the board's final rung, *"10. The World"* (Malkhut, the kingdom-within), so it works as a lyric and as a Tree-of-Life key at the same time. The half-formed membrane over raw desert reads as creation caught in progress: a world being conceived out of formless matter, the picture-version of *"believe, then conceive."* **Connects to →** [[Imagine A World]] · [[Kabbalah - The Tree of Life]] · [[Concepts/The Upload]] · [[Roy]] ### #145 · THE CIRCLE · `THE GREAT JAGWAR` A translucent wireframe of the numerals *3* and *3*, the album's logo, built in 3D vector lines and hung over a bleak arctic waste of snow, cracked ice, and flat white horizon. This is the mint room for *The Circle*, the closing track of *33*, so the tie is definitional. The code, *"The Great Jagwar,"* names the song's central mythic figure: the feminine maker, the *"Jagwar with a world tied on a string"* who makes the other Jagwars and teaches them to sing, the same Great Jaguar that recurs in Roy's hand-drawn cosmology. The pattern of the number showing through a frozen, emptied world fits the song's doctrine exactly, a maker who hides the song inside creation and then withdraws, leaving the circle to be remembered and regrown *"from the inside of the inside."* **Connects to →** [[The Circle]] · [[Concepts/The Pattern]] · [[The Thread]] · [[Roy]] ### #147 · CAN'T LIE (EARLY ROY) · `CAN'T LIE` About ten seconds of phone footage from the stage, looking out at a packed dark concert hall, the whole crowd holding up phone flashlights in a swaying sea of light while a hard spotlight flares straight into the lens. The parenthetical *"(Early Roy)"* is the key: this is documentary footage from Roy English's performing life before Jagwar Twin, the band era before the solo mythos, and *"Can't Lie"* reads as a title from that earlier catalogue rather than any released Jagwar Twin song. In the Hall it works as a memory-relic, a literal *"video phantom"* of a former self folded into the archive, so the origin performer becomes one more reflected face in the mirror-hall of Roy's history, the raised phone-lights standing in as witnesses to a life the project keeps returning to. **Connects to →** [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[Concepts/The Pattern]] · [[Roy]] ### #150 · GENESIS UNDERGROUND · `DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE INTERNET` Three seconds of a scanned model of Roy's own head and neck floating in pure black, the mesh riddled with holes and torn edges that eat into the face and throat, so the captured self looks like it's disintegrating; a thin pendant and dark neck tattoos are just visible. Paired with the code *"Don't be fooled by the internet,"* it reads as a self-portrait as data: the face acquired by the machine, then rendered as a flawed digital ghost, which is exactly why it lives in the PHANTOMS realm. It stages the mythology's recurring fear, that the algorithm captures your face and then treats the copy as more real than you, the *"artificial reflection"* that replaces instead of reflects, with the code as the caption warning you not to mistake that corrupted double for the self. This is the disc from room 23 (*"Genesis underground"*) surfacing a third time, now as a decaying scan of the man himself. **Connects to →** [[Concepts/The Upload]] · [[Concepts/The Algorithm]] · [[Concepts/The Aquarium]] · [[Hall of Mirrors]] · [[Sir Lucius]] --- ## Read next - [[Artifacts]] — the hub, and the rest of the artifact groups. - [[Hall of Mirrors]] — the ARG these songs and demos were unlocked from. - [[Hall of Mirrors/The I'm 33 Board]] — the cosmology board so many of these codes are pieces of.
