Third, a labor is a change in *capacity*, not a trophy: the seeker often fails, repeats, or learns a new relation to the thing (the doe of Cancer must be released, not clutched). And ***champion***: in a body of work built on ordeal, descent, and return, it reads as the technical term for one who has completed the trials, not gym-floor motivation. *"Choose to"* is Bailey's election requirement hiding in plain sight; the trial is one you volunteer for. > > The champion ethic is also lived, not just sung. Talking about being dropped by his major label, Roy puts it in his own biographical voice: *"be willing to fight for it. [[Superhuman]] reads as the other failure mode: the brute-force misreading, *over* rather than *through*, an army performing more-than-human adequacy instead of walking into the cave unarmed. > > By June 2026 Roy's own feed goes martial: *"the time has come to slay the lion,"* and earlier, quoting Blavatsky, *"The mind is the slayer of the real / We must slay the slayer."* Note the shape: *slay the slayer* is not *slay the lion and be done.* What gets slain is the mind's claim to run the house, not the mind. Bailey's answer to a powerful part of the self that has stopped serving is never *destroy it*, and it is not quite *merge with it* either. The move is quieter and stranger: bring the thing back into right relation. The lion's energy is preserved; its *authority* is what dies. Hercules wears the skin afterward. The Protector, the wound-born armor, becomes the coat you walk the rest of the road in. > > This is why [[Sir Lucius]] reads as the Nemean Lion, Bailey's "coordinated dominant personality," the ego built to survive, now grown too strong to share the house, and why the cure is never amputation. It is also near-identical, in architecture, to what Jung calls shadow work: the disowned material holds real value, and the task is relationship, not elimination. That is Jung's parallel, named as a parallel, not Roy's stated intent. > > And mark where the public work actually stands: nothing in it kills the lion, and nothing in it finishes the taming either. The catalogue names the trial, circles the cave, shows the lion loose. Its grounded tarot anchor is the Fool, and its chorus is in [[Mary]]'s voice, which complicates any tidy reading. **How far back does Bailey go?** Whether the earlier albums (*Subject to Flooding*, *33*) carry Hercules anchors would establish how long this has been a working reference. **And the name:** does Roy ever connect Sir Lucius to Bailey's Lucis Trust lineage, or is the light-root convergence pure substrate?
