# The Mouth — The Deep End This is the deep water under the mouth pages ([[The Voice]] and [[Consumption]]): the throat in the Kabbalistic body-map, the letter-mysticism braid, the King James mouth-texts, and the more speculative threads. Dense and speculative by design; everything here is correspondence read *against* the work, attributed to its traditions, not architecture Roy has stated. The main page stands without any of it. > [!map]- Mind the gap (Da'at and the throat) > In the Kabbalistic body-map the throat sits at **Da'at**, the hidden non-sephirah, the gate where interior knowing crosses the abyss and comes out as utterance. The throat is where breath becomes voice, where the inner thing meets the world, and Da'at is the name for how narrow that crossing is. Read through that frame, it lands as no accident that [[Sir Lucius]] wears his *El Roi* marking (אל ראי, "the God who sees me," Genesis 16:13) precisely there, at the utterance-gate, the organ of the very line *"you don't know me."* > > Two details worth being exact about, because they get garbled. The *El Roi* at the throat is Sir Lucius's **character marking**, part of the mask (the balance of the evidence reads it as makeup), not a tattoo inked on Roy's own body. And keep it distinct from *El Roy*, the seeing-signature that runs under Roy's side of the map: *El Roi* is the mark Lucius wears, *El Roy* is the eye Roy writes with. All of this is framework-tier correspondence, offered on Roy's open public engagement with Hebrew and Kabbalah (his 2019 post on the Hebrew language, *"It's a cool language"*; Kabbalah on the public I'm 33 board), not a method he has anywhere stated. > [!map]- Angels on the angles > The densest frame on the page, and its core move, consonants as angles and vowels as angels, is **this guide's reading** of a documented tradition the work visibly engages, not anything Roy has stated (see [[Letters of Creation|The Angels and the Angles]] for the public anchors). In a long Kabbalistic lineage the mouth is exactly where structure and spirit meet: teeth, palate, and tongue give *form* to *breath*. Read that way, consonants are the structure (the angles, the bones of the word) and vowels are the spirit (the breath, the *Ruach*, sung through them). The Zohar puts it almost literally: *"the letters are the body and the vowel-points the soul."* > > Through that lens the Welcome to the Circus lines re-light. *"Teeth falling out"* reads as the structural collapse of the language apparatus; *"screaming with no words"* as pure vowel, pure spirit with nothing left to carry it. Hebrew helps the picture along by writing only consonants, the vowel-breath added after; the mark on Lucius's throat is written as just the skeleton, no vowels, only the bones. The scholarly braid under this (Sefer Yetzirah's letters as formative powers, Abulafia's permutation, Gikatilla, the Shem HaMephorash) is the analyst's assembly, correspondence laid under the work, and it should never be read back as Roy's intent. > [!reading]- Go bananananana (a speculative resonance) > Hear the album's la-la and na-na textures and [[Bananas]]' *"go bananananana"* through that frame and they stop sounding like filler: pure vowel, the mouth gone to sound on purpose. The non-lexical vocables run into the hundreds across the public lyrics ([[City of Angels]] and [[Not Your Homie]] carry the same pattern), though that tally is one reader's hand count, not a cited statistic. And *babble* is a breath away from *Babel* (Genesis 11), the tower where the single tongue shattered: on this reading, pure vowel as spirit on the testifying side, babble as the sound a mouth makes when it can no longer cohere on the consuming side. Take the babble-to-Babel move as wordplay that happens to rhyme with the structure, not a claim about intent. > > The Hebrew *davar* means both the word and the thing it creates, speech as the act that makes; set beside Jagwar Twin's posted *"No thing ever creates another thing"* (February 2022), the two read like the same doctrine opened from both ends, with the mouth as the hinge. That pairing is a speculative resonance, held loosely. > > One honesty note holds the line: *"It's all nonsense"* is **Lucius's** dismissive theatrical line in the visual lore, not Roy stating a writing philosophy. The public receipt for nonsense as Roy's own technique is still pending, so the vocable-as-technique reading stays interpretive. > [!reading]- The mouth, King James edition > The cluster has roots older than any of this. The consuming pole: Sheol opening its mouth *"beyond measure"* (Isaiah 5:14), the underworld itself as a mouth; the devil as a roaring lion *"seeking whom he may devour"* (1 Peter 5:8). The suppressed-voice pole: prayer met with a closed heaven (Job 30:20, Lamentations 3:8), the biblical voiceless scream. A sharp inversion hides in the teeth line: the Gospels' recurring *"gnashing of teeth"* is the sound of anguish, but in Welcome to the Circus the teeth *fall out* rather than gnash, as if even the capacity for anguish has collapsed. And the chosen-silence pole: *"He opened not his mouth"* (Isaiah 53:7), voluntary silence as power. These are universal texts, cited as tradition; the work never quotes them, and no one should read this drawer as Roy's asserted sources. > [!question]- Munch, Cassandra, and the silent scream > *"Screaming, but no words come out"* has two literary parents worth naming. Munch's *The Scream* is the freeze-response made visible, the cry that cannot be heard. Cassandra is the social version: a true voice rendered inaudible by the room, not by the throat. Which sharpens the main page's open question, diagnosis or memoir, and adds one more: is *"teeth falling out"* a pure failure state, or the voice at its most raw, stripped back to breath? > [!map]- The other kind of mouth (a flagged esoteric thread) > One more valence, the most speculative on the page. In the fifth labor of Hercules (the Nemean Lion), the lion's cave has two openings; the hero seals one and enters through the other. In Alice Bailey's esoteric reading the two cave-mouths carry their own anatomical map. *"There's no exit sign in my maze"* reads, on this thread, as that cave unentered, the second mouth never sealed. It hands "the Mouth" a second meaning, the opening you either pass through or wander, and it is offered as exactly what it is: one esoteric reading among others. > [!warning]- How we'd be wrong > If the plain reading, the mouth as the doorway between inside and outside, accounts for every mouth-line as well as the apparatus above does, the apparatus is decorative. If the nonsense receipt never surfaces in Roy's voice, the vocable-as-technique reading stays interpretive forever. Both falsifiers stay on the table, and there is no shame in it: not everything here has to mean, and if any of this ever sounds too sure, that is the tell that it is being pushed too hard. > [!feed]- Back up > [[The Voice]] · [[Letters of Creation|The Angels and the Angles]] · [[Sir Lucius]] · [[Inversion]]
