Dense and speculative by design; everything here is a strong reading or an attributed framework unless marked otherwise. One row, Not Your Homie at Leo, is the guide's strongest read, tight enough to feel almost pinned. Every other row is a reading built from lyric and image, offered because it illuminates, and each one would need its own anchor to graduate. Cleanness alone decides nothing: a tidy match is equally consistent with deliberate design and with an attentive listener's pattern-finding. > > Read as faculties of the soul, each labor tests a power gone distorted, and the work is to return it to the heart's rule. Hercules tracks it to a cave with two openings, and the lion just runs out the other side. So he changes his whole approach: he blocks one opening, *leaves his weapons outside*, enters through the other, and strangles the lion bare-handed in the dark. He cannot win from a distance with his usual tools. He has to enter, disarm, and meet the beast directly. > > **Bailey's reading.** The lion is the **coordinated dominant personality**: the ego built up by all the earlier labors into something genuinely powerful, capable, self-sustaining. By Leo the aspirant is no longer a floundering mess; they are successful by every worldly measure, and that is precisely the danger. The same architecture that secured survival becomes a self-centered force devastating to everyone around it. The lion is successful Hercules, turned against the world. Blocking one cave-mouth seals the emotional escape route, no fleeing into excuses or victim-narratives; and the strangling is not killing in the ordinary sense. What dies is the ego's *authority*. The lion's energy is preserved. What changes is the hierarchy. > > **The Strength card.** The tarot's Strength card (Major Arcana VIII; XI in some decks) shows a serene figure gently closing a lion's jaws: mastery through gentleness, instinct held in steady relation rather than suppressed. This guide ties Not Your Homie to this card as well as to the labor, which is why the card belongs on this page, but hold its scope: Strength is the Leo steady-state emblem *in the abstract*, the peace after the labor is done right. It must not be pinned to [[No. 1 Champion (la Conquistadora)]], whose grounded tarot anchor is the Fool and whose chorus is in [[Mary]]'s voice. (Mary as a calm-figure-with-the-beast image stays a loosely held, speculative candidate, and no more.) > > **The shared architecture.** Bailey's Leo, the Strength card, and Jung's shadow work all run the same move: the disowned material holds real value, and the task is relationship, not elimination. Bailey and Jung both call it *integration*, and the word needs care, because it does not mean two melting into one. Energy kept, authority changed, contact direct, habitual weapons set down. The Beast is, structurally, the aspirant's own prior solution: the ego built to survive, now grown too strong to share the house. Three traditions rhyming is still rhyme, not receipts; each is named for what it is. > [!map]- The two-door cave and the coat you keep > Bailey reads the cave's two openings as the two lobes of the pituitary gland in her esoteric anatomy, the dual modalities of consciousness, emotional-instinctual against higher reasoning; blocking one opening is sealing the emotional exit at the level of the body's own switchboard. On that reading the strangling is a demotion, not a death: the personality keeps its power and loses its independence. > > The continuation sharpens taming-not-killing into a concrete image. In the text Hercules *"killed the lion and stripped its skin, shewing it to the people,"* and per the Lucis Trust's companion reading (secondary-sourced, not verbatim-verified, since the site blocks the fetch) he then wears that skin as his mantle through every later labor, shedding it only at Capricorn. The conquered lion becomes the disciple's vesture. So the Protector is neither killed nor left on the throne: it becomes the coat you walk the rest of the road in, the wound-born armor of [[Superhuman]], [[Loser]], and [[Good Day]] subordinated to the soul rather than cut away. > > One Kabbalistic rhyme, held as resonance and no more: in the Tree's language this is **Geburah (Severity) tempered by Chesed (Mercy)**, the same correction the Strength card draws. On that map [[Superhuman]] reads as the untempered Geburah pole, severity with no mercy to soften it, the lion as brute force. The Tree itself lives at [[Kabbalah - The Tree of Life]]; this page borrows the one rhyme and leaves it there. > [!reading]- Cancer: capture, love, release > The labor Roy taught in full on the Live, confirming Bailey's numbering on the way (*"cancer specifically is the fourth labor"*). Hercules must capture the thing he loves most, a wild doe. Two goddesses counsel him, one urging instinct ("like an animal, lower"), the other intellect ("higher"), and acting from either alone fails. A third voice succeeds: *"the synthesis between the instinct and the intellect… the intuition… the god voice thing in here."* He captures the doe, holds it, loves it. Cancer's gift is to love and nurture deeply; its shadow is to *"hold too tight and won't let go."* Then the turn: he must let the doe go, sacrificing it on the altar of Apollo the sun-god, where it is *"born again over and over again forever"*, *"letting go and not attaching to the outcome."* Roy threads it through his own Venus in Cancer and applies it to record labels, career, and love. > > The transmission is faithful to Bailey's text (the triad, the two goddesses, the altar of the Sun-God, the eternal repetition), with one honest shift to flag: in Bailey the doe *is* the intuition; Roy personalizes it as what he attracts, loves, and creates. Faithful application, slightly shifted, not a misreading. > > **The doe, three ways (don't pick one).** Hold three labeled readings without collapsing them. *Bailey:* the doe is the intuition itself. *Roy:* what I attract, love, create. *This guide's more speculative overlay, held apart from both:* the buried child-self, the [[Ballerina Boy]] kid ("come back for that kid I let go"), which Cancer's register of nurture, home, and child makes apt. > > And the reading this guide will stand behind about why *this* is the labor Roy chose to teach, offered as a reading: strip Cancer to its lesson and it comes out as *capture the thing you love, hold it, then love it enough to release it and not clutch the outcome.* Read that as the working ethics of a pop artist handed sacred material and asked to carry it into public entertainment without crushing it, and Cancer stops being one labor among twelve. It becomes the job description. The sun-altar even rhymes, at the level of the title, with [[SOL]] (*sol* = sun): the loop of sacrifice-and-rebirth reframed as practice, not entrapment. A speculative resonance, left as one. > [!reading]- Libra: the perversity that upholds the opposite > The page Roy underlined and posted to his Story is the Libra labor, confirmed by its own text (*"The Libran is not inclined to be either a zealot or a tyrant"*). His underlines cluster on the cost of serving a humanity that misreads you: *"it is very difficult to serve the incredible species called man"*; *"reason with him, and he will stubbornly insist on the primacy of his instincts."* And the densest mark of all, fully underlined: *"the perversity that upholds the opposite of what is said."* > > That his emphasis fell on those lines is grounded; what follows is the reading. Fully underlined, that last phrase reads as a near-definition of [[Inversion]]: same form, opposite content, "call evil good, light darkness." It rhymes, too, with the Circus's misread truth-teller. Which song, if any, carries the Libra material remains an open question; the labor Roy marked most heavily has no song anchor yet. Stories are ephemeral by design; the screenshot is the archive. > [!map]- The far end of the wheel > Three completion-labors close the cycle, and the catalogue touches them unevenly. All of this drawer is reading and framework, none of it Roy-stated. > > **Capricorn (Cerberus)** is the descent: a journey into hell to bring up the three-headed dog, under the sign of the mountain-top. The summit is reached *through* the underworld; the descent is the ascent, Bailey's keynote stated outright (*"Lost am I in light supernal, yet on that light I turn my back"*). On this reading the song [[Lucius Lullaby]] sits here: the childhood bedroom, the bottoming-out floor, *"life is but a dream"* as the threshold-gate. One row of the speculative scaffold, no more. It also sets up a contrast the guide keeps for [[Inversion]]: the true summit is the one reached by going down first, which is exactly the descent a counterfeit would skip. > > **Aquarius (the Augean Stables)** is world-service: the land under "the accumulated filth of ages," cleansed not by shoveling but by redirecting two rivers. Read against the catalogue, this labor looks largely unperformed: the algorithm-and-media songs ([[Online]], [[Happy Face]], [[Pay Attention (feat. little luna)|Pay Attention]]) mostly *depict* the stables rather than cleanse them, and [[Shine]] reads as the rare river-redirection. > > **Pisces (the Cattle of Geryon)** is the return: gathering the dispersed self and bringing the whole herd home. A lead held loosely: three-bodied Geryon as the divided being, the cattle carried in a golden cup, the "turn back to save" shape. (**Corrected 2026-07-29.** This guide used to say a Pisces North Node in Roy's chart was "not publicly sourced." It is sourced: on camera in May 2026 he says *"I'm big on astrology, and my north node is in Pisces, which means my south node is in Virgo,"* and glosses it himself — *"my correction in this lifetime is entering more of the Pisces energy, which is more flow and openness and also spirituality, but bringing that into the practical physical world cuz it's in my 6th house."* So the placement is his own, not a fan chart-reading. What has **not** changed is the tie to *this* labour: he names the placement, he does not name Bailey's Piscean return, so that link is still this guide's reading and still stands or falls on the songs. Worth holding beside it: in the same breath he calls the Virgo shadow *"you only see things your way and very perfectionistic"* — his own words for the pole this guide reads as the optimizing mind.) > > **The gates.** Bailey's doctrine names two cosmic gates: Cancer, the gate into incarnation; Capricorn, the gate into the spiritual kingdom, with Sagittarius the little gate before it. Sagittarius's own labor is right speech, the "birds" as gossip and intrusive thought; one easy slip worth correcting is that *silence* is the motto of Scorpio, not Sagittarius. > [!map]- The wheel, the Crosses, and the doorman > Three Bailey doctrines do load-bearing work elsewhere in the project, so they belong here in full, each attributed to Bailey and held as framework. > > **The wheel-reversal.** *"Hercules, the soul, follows the true Way, reverses the usual procedure and, figuratively speaking, goes against the tide."* One wheel, two directions: ordinary humanity travels it mechanically (a loop); the disciple reverses and walks it deliberately (a return). This is the source-anchor for the project's [[The Loop and the Circle|Loop-vs-Circle]] keystone, same structure, opposite direction. Note the trap: the soul's path is the developmental Aries-to-Pisces wheel, **not** the album's release order. Don't conflate them. > > **The three Crosses.** Mutable (ordinary humanity), Fixed (the disciple's cross, which Hercules mounts: "power to do," "to dare," "silence," "to know"), Cardinal (the Initiate). Roy's three publicly given placements, Gemini Sun, Libra Rising, Venus in Cancer, already touch the Mutable and Cardinal Crosses; the fuller chart that would span all three circulates in fan readings but is not publicly sourced, so the "fitted to him across all three Crosses" version of this observation stays a hedged lead, not a fact. > > **The Dweller on the Threshold.** From Bailey's *Glamour: A World Problem* (1950): illusion of the mental plane, glamour of the astral, maya of the etheric, and their combined sum in the integrated personality is the Dweller, the figure met at every gate of real change, Leo's cave and Capricorn's Hades-gate alike. This grounds the project's [[The Dweller on the Threshold|Dweller]], and the Lucius-as-Dweller reading, in Bailey's own system rather than in borrowed terminology. > [!props]- A crow, a swan, and a cup they both want > Roy gives [[Sir Lucius|Lucius]] the crow and [[Roy]] the dove, and names the constellations Corvus and Cygnus. Bailey's Leo sky is busy with birds and cups too, which is exactly the kind of thing you can make too much of, so here is the careful version. The constellations in this stretch of sky are old and shared: Hydra the serpent, Crater the cup, Corvus the crow riding Hydra's back. Plain star-lore, nobody's private code. > > The crow's fable is the one that bites: Apollo's crow, sent with a cup to fetch water, dawdles and lies, and is fixed in the sky forever beside Crater, within sight of the water, never able to drink. Intelligence condemned to thirst by its own crooked framing of the truth. A counter-image may exist in the Hall of Mirrors, a dove reaching a chalice, but that artifact has not been independently verified against the archive's catalog, so it stays a lead here, not an anchor (see [[The Dove]]). > > Two cautions, because this is precisely the pattern that wants to run away with you. The raven-that-never-returns and the dove-that-comes-home is a real matter-to-spirit arc, but its cleanest home is Genesis 8, Noah's two birds, not a line you can pin on Bailey; that mapping is this guide's own and it belongs to [[The Crow]] and [[The Dove]]. The same shape rhymes with the alchemists' *caput corvi*, the raven's head, the **[[Nigredo|nigredo]]** blackening that turns toward the white albedo, and alchemy is a named influence, so the rhyme is fair game. But rhyme is all it is. That Bailey pairs these birds and that Roy names Corvus and Cygnus is a lovely convergence inside one shared current, inherited substrate, not evidence that Bailey is where the names came from. Mythic emergence, not a cipher Roy authored. > [!lore]- Lucis, Lucifer, Lucius > Bailey founded the Lucis Trust (incorporated 1922); its publishing arm began as the Lucifer Publishing Company (1922) and was renamed Lucis Publishing in 1925, after the backlash you would expect. *Lucis* is Latin *lux/lucis*, "light," tied to the Theosophical reading of Lucifer as light-bringer. The convergence with [[Sir Lucius]], that *luc-* light-root, is a real resonance within the same Theosophical current. It is **not** evidence that Roy named Lucius after the Trust; "Lucius" carries the light-root all on its own, and this stays an open question unless a Roy-sourced statement ever arrives. It is power unrecognized and therefore misused,"* the integration thesis almost verbatim. **Israel Regardie:** *"If you face something that you fear and recognize it for what is, you give it balance."* **C. S. Lewis's *Screwtape Letters*** as a literary model for the counsel-as-temptation Lucius voice. **Blavatsky**, in the March 2026 post: *"The mind is the slayer of the real / We must slay the slayer."* > > The mastery claim lands the same way: *"Astrology is a blueprint of where your soul's limitations are… completely useless and false for the evolved soul. We must master our stars,"* which is Bailey's own doctrine of the soul mastering the zodiac rather than obeying it. The lion emoji is Roy's own bio-glyph. The cheap error: *tame the beast* is near-universal (self-help, Christian asceticism, Buddhist mind-training, Jung, Revelation), so what lifts this reading past the generic is the tightness of the Not Your Homie / Leo fit plus Bailey-as-named-influence, and even then Bailey stays one lens among many, never the master key. The subtler error is the tidy one: reading the twelve as monster-of-the-week, twelve creatures, twelve victories, duality resolved, credits roll. Clean, dramatic, and wrong. Nothing in the public work kills Lucius; the lion-skin is worn, not buried; *my mind must serve my heart* resolves in service, not fusion. The cycle the work points at ends in polarity held in right order, and the work is still approaching that end, not standing past it. The discipline, applied to every reading here: would this still hold without Bailey?
