# Gatekeeper Saga > [!gist] battling with gatekeepers but im gunna pull some magic > That was how the day was going, per the public Discord, the night of November 15, 2024. > > For roughly four months, from November 2024 to February 28, 2025, a record label sat on the song codenamed *dumbledore*, and Roy narrated the standoff to the Circle as a running Harry Potter serial, house-elf and all, right up until *"Master gave dumbledore a sock"* and the song walked free. Three layers are worth keeping separate as you read: a real business fight happened; Roy chose to tell it in wizard-speak; and this guide reads the telling through the catalogue's larger machinery. The first layer is grounded fact, permalinked post by post. > > Every theory page in this guide says some version of *"the Circus decides what gets seen."* This is the one documented stretch where you get to watch it happen to a real release, out loud, with jokes. Usually the lore leaks *into* reality, a lyric just sitting there on Spotify. Here the leak runs the other way: a real industry fight leaked up into the myth while it was still happening. The Gatekeeper Saga is the receipts. **Where it enters** * The night of 2024-11-15, when the whole mythology arrives fully formed in about ten minutes: *"I'm trying to release dumbledore but the gatekeepers are blocking me from getting it to the realm"* → *"they couldnt even pull the sword out of the stone"* → *"idk about you but i feel like fucking dumbledore."* The Arthurian sword and the Potter wizard land two minutes apart, one riff. * The gate's actual demand, too on-brand to invent: *"they said the song needs to go viral on tiktok for them to release the song and im like wtf haha."* A song had to prove itself to [[The Algorithm]] before it was allowed to exist. * The resolution, delivered in the house-elf's voice on 2025-02-28: *"Master gave dumbledore a sock, dumbledore is finally free,"* after a blockchain end-run had already slipped the song out the side door. That is the surface, and it is a complete story on its own. The drawers below go one layer deeper at a time. --- > [!map]- The floor was laid two years earlier > The gatekeeper frame did not arrive from nowhere. Roy had already been dropped by the majors, twice, and said so plainly on the public Discord: *"Warner dropped me and said Happy Face wasn't good sooo haha"* (2023-10-01), and *"I was dropped from atlantic records and they thought the song sucked"* (2023-11-19). The ethic he pulled out of it is the whole saga in advance: *"And be willing to fight for it. Even if that means 'losing' in the short term."* By the time a label sat on *dumbledore*, the story of the artist versus the gate was ready-made. > > And Michael Morgan opened it. Two weeks before the famous burst he was already narrating the blocked release to the Circle, *"still waiting on exact date confirmation from the label but hopefully soon"* (2024-11-01), and he handed Roy the signature line first: *"U sure you're not feeling like dumbledore?"* By mid-November he had drawn the shape of the conflict, *"the realm needs to be ready for dumbledore before it can drop."* The co-narrator billing is earned, not courtesy. He set the table. > [!map]- Ten minutes, one riff, then the sock > Watch the order on 2024-11-15, because the truth is better than any invented escalation. It opens as a complaint, *"the gatekeepers are blocking me from getting it to the realm,"* and by the next message it is already a genre: *"they couldnt even pull the sword out of the stone"* (23:21), *"the realm will prevail tho"* (23:22), *"idk about you but i feel like fucking dumbledore"* (23:23). It closes on what is arguably the saga's thesis, in the words he posted that night: *"thats how my days going. battling with gatekeepers but im gunna pull some magic"* (23:30). He later reported the label had also called the song *"problematic."* > > The magic was a blockchain end-run, and the correct way to tell it is the way it actually happened: Michael carried Roy's message to the Circle, *"…dropped it on the blockchain becuase* [sic] *the label has no rights there! Haha go cop it"* (2025-01-12). The words are Roy's, misspelling included, kept here on purpose. The song escaped into [[The Realm]]'s actual architecture, on-chain via Coop Records, while the official version stayed jailed, and Michael turned the community into the campaign: *"the more you all comment and ask for it, the more ammo we have to prove to the label that it should be released."* The January 2025 LA fires added a genuinely somber delay, the one stretch where the bit went quiet. Then the standoff broke in the only correct voice, the house-elf's: *"Master gave dumbledore a sock, dumbledore is finally free."* On February 28, 2025, *dumbledore* released through official channels on Big Loud, in two simultaneous versions, one of them literally titled *DARK ARTS*. (Single or six-track EP is its own tangle; see [[dumbledore]] for the paperwork.) > [!reading]- The critique, enacted > Every song about the machine is theory until the machine does the thing to a real release, out loud. That is what this is. The gate stated [[The Circus]]'s house rule as literal policy: prove yourself to TikTok first, or the song does not get to exist. That is [[The Algorithm]] talking, the automated sorting, and it is worth keeping distinct from the institutional judgment sitting next to it; a label deciding and a metric deciding are related pressures, not one voice. It is [[Welcome to the Circus]] as lived experience. > > Two brakes travel with this reading. First, no single villain: labels, managers, platforms, and audiences can produce the same recurring pressure without any unified intent behind it, and the saga's singular *"the gatekeepers"* is Roy's storytelling frame, not an org chart. Second, not every gate is corrupt. Gatekeepers also fund work, protect standards, and open doors; this same label did, after all, eventually release the song. The saga's target is a specific rule, the algorithm as admissions officer, not the existence of doors. > [!reading]- To escape the Circus, you run the Circus > Here is the honest complication, and it keeps the comedy from curdling into smugness. The end-run looks like pure defiance, but look at how the fight is actually fought: with the machine's own tools. Michael's *"the more you all comment and ask for it, the more ammo we have"* is algorithm-gaming in miniature, a coordinated engagement campaign to move a corporate metric. And it is the method, not the exception. The **Bad Feeling radio war** (2024-01) ran the same play, *"it really is time to go to war. becuase* [sic] *we're at war with the forces of darkness in pop music,"* and so did the **Spotify mission** (2025-11), looping a track *"171 or more time"* because *"makes spotify think that its a real playlist too."* > > To *escape* the Circus, the Circle *runs* the Circus. Roy is both the spectacle's fiercest critic and its operator, and on this reading that is not hypocrisy, it is the trap stated honestly: the artist who hates the machine still has to win inside it. The mechanics are grounded and permalinked; the irony is a reading. But it is the reading that makes *"Lucius was right again"* land as tragedy instead of triumph. > [!mask]- The label does a Lucius > Lucius eventually turns the *dumbledore* era into ammunition, but be precise about the target. In [[The Interview]] he attacks the *music's* tonal pivot, not the release fight: *"One minute your music is a twisted circus, the next it's Dumbledore. You don't stand for anything."* The saga is our context for that pivot, not something he cites. > > But hold the two side by side and a rhyme surfaces, and it is only a rhyme. In the theatrical series, the shadow's whole function is gatekeeping. EP1 is the pitch, nothing you make gets through unless you let him run the game: *"happy face, bad feeling, hundreds of millions of streams. Those are me. You need me."* EP2 is the bargain, Lucius shutting down the sincere love song, *"No one wants this love stuff,"* and pushing the commercial track, *"this is what the people want."* That is the staged twin of the real ultimatum. The label behaves the way the shadow argues; the label is not Lucius, and Lucius is not [[The System]] either, he is its sharpest student. And the deeper point cuts inward: the gatekeeper's most important address is not the label's office but the mind that learns to speak the industry's pressure from inside, which is where the character actually lives (see [[The Protector]]). > > The bit even hands you a pun: freedom-by-sock is the Dobby beat, and Dobby's cruel master is named *Lucius* Malfoy. Keep that at exactly wordplay, a wink the story tells on itself, never a source claim; the Lucifer/light etymology is the stronger strand by far. > [!lore]- The fool who grins at the gate > In every archived post of this saga the register stays play. Roy fought a real industry standoff and never filed a bitter dispatch about it (his industry-fight voice elsewhere is not always this light; see the radio war above). On this reading the comedy is not avoidance, it is the wise-fool disguise of the carnival and Tarot traditions, the Fool, card 0, who steps toward the drop grinning: reverence smuggled inside idiocy, a spoonful of wizard-speak so the medicine goes down (see [[The Fool]]). Held as resonance, not doctrine. > > One firewall to carry out of this drawer: *dumbledore* is the only documented direct Harry Potter reference in the whole catalogue, title plus *DARK ARTS VERSION*. Every deeper Potter resonance reads as convergence through shared older tradition, not Rowling influence (see [[Jagwar Twin and Harry Potter]]). > [!lore]- Behold, a wizard 🧙 > The saga's vocabulary outlived the saga. The wizard bit runs back to 2023, when Michael posted *"You're a wizard Luke"* over a literal *Harry_Potter.mp4*, so the frame was in the water before *dumbledore* was a codename. And it kept moving: that spring a Circle member built a batch of new server emojis, a wizard 🧙 among them (it arrived in a set, not as a saga trophy, so read the timing gently), and six weeks later Roy reached past everything else in the tray and picked exactly that one to unveil the Inner Circle: *"Behold the Inner Circle 🧙."* The vocabulary becoming community furniture is the grounded part. Why he chose the wizard is the wink. > [!warning]- Not the inner threshold > A scope guard, because the guide has another gate and they should not blur. The gate here is literal and industrial, a label blocking a release, and Roy's move is to route *around* it, out the side door into [[The Realm]]. That is escape, a counter-world, and it is not the psychological crossing the [[The Dweller on the Threshold]] pages describe, where the gate is inside and the only way is through. The saga is the external, biographical rhyme of that inner structure. Nothing here claims the inner threshold was crossed; the work records that arc as approached, not finished. > [!question]- Left open on purpose > **Is the blocking label the releasing label?** By all appearances yes, Big Loud, but the saga never names its gatekeepers; the identity is a near-certain deduction from the chronology, not a stated fact. **Is the Realm its own thing, or a facet of the Circle?** Roy says *"the realm will expand the circle will grow"* in one breath; possibly two names for one owned world. **Is the Dumbledore reference sincere, ironic, or both?** The release saga grounds a sincere register, the freeing, the long game, Roy calling it *"a love song,"* but the question stays formally open. **And what exactly released?** The single-versus-EP structure of *dumbledore* is still unconfirmed. > [!receipts]- Sources and confidence > Grounded, meaning the words of Roy and Michael on the public Discord (cited by permalink), released music, and dated events: the Warner and Atlantic drops and the fight-for-it ethic; Michael's November setup and the *"feeling like dumbledore"* handoff; the full 2024-11-15 burst including the TikTok ultimatum and *"im gunna pull some magic"*; the *"problematic"* framing; the Coop Records blockchain drop relayed by Michael in Roy's words; the *"ammo"* campaign; the LA-fires delay; the sock; the February 28, 2025 release on Big Loud in two versions; the 2023 *"You're a wizard Luke"* and the 2025 *"Behold the Inner Circle 🧙"*; Lucius naming the *dumbledore* pivot in [[The Interview]]; the radio war and the Spotify mission. > > Reading: the saga as the gatekeeping critique enacted; the double-bind of critic-and-operator; the wise-fool register; the label-behaves-like-Lucius rhyme, held as rhyme, never identity. > > Deduced, not stated: that the blocking label and the releasing label are the same one. Near-certain from the chronology, never named in the saga itself. > > One method note: the song's own lyrics are deliberately not read on this page; the available transcriptions are unreliable, so the saga stays on the release-fight facts. None of this is the answer; it is one way of seeing it. > [!feed]- Read next > [[dumbledore]] · [[The Realm]] · [[The Circus]] · [[The Algorithm]] · [[Jagwar Twin and Harry Potter]] · [[The Interview]]
